Abstract

Machining parameters are factors that influence surface roughness and tool life. In the production of products using a lathe machine, it is important to consider the level of tool wear, as tool wear also affects the resulting surface roughness. Therefore, coolant plays a crucial role in maintaining the performance of the cutting tool. The main objective of this research is to minimize surface roughness and maximize tool life using the Taguchi Orthogonal Array Method (L9). The test results involve measurements of surface roughness and tool life. The research results showed that the smallest surface roughness value and the longest tool life obtained were 0.69 µm and 59.67 minutes, respectively. The study indicated that surface roughness tends to increase with an increasing feed rate but decreases with an increase in spindle speed. Meanwhile, tool wear increases with an increasing spindle speed. It was also observed that coolant affects the values of surface roughness and tool life. The ANOVA analysis results showed that the feed rate has a significant effect on surface roughness, while spindle speed has a significant effect on tool life. Keywords: Taguchi Method, CNC, Surface Roughness, Tool Life, Aluminum Alloy 6063 Parameter pemesinan adalah faktor - faktor yang mempengaruhi kekasaran permukaan dan juga umur pahat. Dalam pembuatan produk dengan menggunakan mesin bubut, perlu dipertimbangkan tingkat keausan pahat yang mana, keausan yang terjadi pada pahat juga akan menyebabkan berkurangnya kekasaran permukaan yang dihasilkan. Oleh sebab itu media pendingin juga memainkan peran yang penting dalam menjaga kinerja alat potong. Tujuan utama penelitian ini adalah meminimalkan kekasaran permukaan dan mekasimalkan umur pahat dengan menggunakan bantuan Metode Taguchi Orthogonal Array (L9). Hasil pengujian melibatkan pengukuran kekasaran permukaan dan umur pahat. Hasil penelitian menghasilkan nilai kekasaran permukaan yang kecil dan umur pahat yang lebih lama diperoleh masing-masing adalah 0.69 µm dan 59.67 menit. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kekasaran permukaan cenderung meningkat dengan bertambahnya feed rate namun menurun dengan peningkatan spindle speed. Sementara keausan pahat meningkat dengan bertambahnya spindle speed. Telah diamati juga bahwa media pendingin juga mempengaruhi nilai dari kekasaran permukaan dan umur pahat. Hasil analisis ANOVA menunjukan Feed rate memiliki pengaruh signifikan terhadap kekasaran permukaan, sementara spindle speed memiliki pengaruh signifikan terhadap umur pahat.
