Abstract

The development of the modern era has accelerated the use of computer network technology, especially in increasingly complex internet networks. The high demands and needs of users for consistent services (high availability) have driven the emergence of technological solutions to address the growing complexity of networks. One prominent solution is Software Defined Network (SDN), which offers scalability and programmability, particularly in Load Balancing on web servers. The SDN architecture separates the control plane and the data plane, allowing for reprogramming, efficient management, and open innovation. In the context of Load Balancing, algorithms such as Round robin and Least connection play a crucial role in distributing the load on servers to optimize Throughput and response to user requests. This research aims to analyze the performance of Load Balancing algorithms, specifically Round robin and Least connection, in the SDN network architecture. The use of SDN is associated with flexible and centralized management, where the Load balancer is placed on a physical switch with OpenWRT. Testing is conducted on a real network to obtain more significant results, with the main parameters being Throughput, delay, and packet loss. These factors underpin this research as an effort to meet the need for optimal performance in Load Balancing on Software Defined Network (SDN). Keywords: SDN, Load balancer, Round robin, Least connection, server Perkembangan zaman modern telah mengakselerasi pemanfaatan teknologi jaringan komputer, terutama dalam jaringan internet yang semakin kompleks. Tingginya kebutuhan dan permintaan pengguna terhadap layanan yang konsisten (high availability) telah mendorong munculnya solusi teknologi untuk mengatasi kompleksitas jaringan yang semakin meningkat. Salah satu solusi yang menonjol adalah Software Defined Network (SDN) yang menawarkan skalabilitas dan kemampuan programabilitas, khususnya dalam Load Balancing pada web server. Arsitektur SDN memisahkan control plane dan data plane, memungkinkan pemrograman ulang, manajemen yang efisien, dan inovasi terbuka. Dalam konteks Load Balancing, algoritma seperti Round robindan Least connection memiliki peran penting dalam mendistribusikan beban pada server untuk mengoptimalkan Throughput dan respon terhadap permintaan pengguna. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis performa algoritma Load Balancing, khususnya Round robin dan Least connection, pada arsitektur jaringan SDN. Penggunaan SDN dikaitkan dengan manajemen yang fleksibel dan terpusat, di mana Load balancer ditempatkan pada physical switch dengan OpenWRT. Pengujian dilakukan pada real network untuk mendapatkan hasil yang lebih signifikan, dengan parameter utama pengukuran Throughput, delay, dan packet loss. Faktor-faktor ini mendasari penelitian ini sebagai upaya dalam menghadapi kebutuhan akan performa yang optimal dalam Load Balancing pada Software Defined Network (SDN).
