Abstract

The necessity for quick and dependable data transfer is growing in the ever expanding digital age. High capacity and fast fiber optic connection technology has expanded throughout all regions to suit this need. However, a number of variables, including the propagation of distortion, can cause fiber optic networks to function less well over time. This factor arises when the quality of light signals emitted by light waves flowing in optical cables decreases. This study's methodology models the current network and performs simulation measurements using the OptiSystem software. Then, using an Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) and power link budget computations, these simulated data are contrasted with real measurements. The performance of the fiber optic network is then thoroughly analyzed by comparing the results of these three approaches. The results of this study show that the differences among the three approaches offer important information on the functionality of the fiber optic network. A valuable tool for preliminary planning and estimations are simulations, and an accurate representation of the field circumstances can be obtained by OTDR measurements. On the other hand, power link budget calculations offer estimates that take into consideration all possible attenuation sources. Keywords : Fiber Optic, Optisystem, Optical time domain reflectometer Dalam era digital yang terus berkembang, kebutuhan akan transfer data yang cepat serta handal semakin penting. Teknologi komunikasi fiber optik sudah tersebar disemua daerah untuk memenuhi kebutuhan ini dengan kapasitas dan kecepatan tinggi. Namun kinerja jaringan fiber optik dapat menurun seiring waktu akibat berbagai faktor, salah satunya adalah distorsi dispersi. Faktor itu terjadi ketika gelombang cahaya yang merambat dalam serat optik mengalami penurunan kualitas sinyal cahaya yang dipancarkan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini menggunakan software optisysytem sebagai pemodelan jaringan eksisting dan melakukan simulasi pengukuran yang akan dibandingkan dengan pengukuran menggunakan OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer) dan perhitungan power link budget. Hasil dari ketiga metode tersebut dibandingkan untuk mendapatkan gambaran menyeluruh hasil kinerja jaringan fiber optik. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini perbedaan hasil antara ketiga metode menunjukan pemahaman tentang kinerja jaringan fiber optik. Simulasi berguna untuk estimasi dan perencanaan awal, pengukuran dengan OTDR memberikan data akurat mengenai kondisi saat dilapangan, perhitungan dengan power link budget memberikan perkiraan yang mempertimbangkan semua sumber yang berpotensi adanya redaman.
