Abstract

Overseas students who study far from their place of origin in other areas often experience psychological pressure stemming from changes in various aspects of their lives compared to when they were still living with their families. The biggest obstacles for overseas students are high costs of living, financial limitations, lack of time management and lack of financial literacy, or problems related to financial issues or financial well-being. The aim of this research is to examine the influence of money attitude on financial well-being among overseas students at Mercu Buana Meruya University. This research design is quantitative correlational with survey methods. Using incidental sampling, a research sample of 163 Rantau student respondents was obtained. The measurement tools used are money attitude from Lay & Furnham (2018) and financial well-being from Cordray CFPB (2017). Data were analyzed with a simple linear regression test using the SPSS for Windows v26 application. The results of this research prove that there is a significant positive influence of money attitude on financial well-being as evidenced by the results of R = 0.500 with sig.0.000 <0.05 and R2 = 0.250. This means that money attitude contributes to the financial well-being of overseas students at Mercu Buana Meruya University by 25% and the rest is influenced by other variables outside this research. Mahasiswa rantau yang menempuh pendidikan jauh dari tempatnya berasal ke daerah lain sering mengalami tekanan psikologis yang bersumber dari perubahan di berbagai aspek kehidupannya dibandingkan ketika masih tinggal bersama keluarga. Kendala terbesar mahasiswa rantau yaitu biaya hidup tinggi, keterbatasan keuangan, kurangnya manajemen waktu dan kurangnya literasi keuangan, atau permasalahan yang berkaitan dengan masalah keuangan atau financial well-being. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengkaji pengaruh money attitude terhadap financial well-being pada mahasiswa rantau di Universitas Mercu Buana Meruya. Desain penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif korelasional dengan metode survey. Menggunakan accidental sampling diperoleh sampel penelitian sebanyak 163 responden mahasiswa Rantau. Alat ukur yang digunakan yaitu money attitude dari Lay & Furnham (2018) dan financial well-being dari CFPB (2017). Data dianalisis dengan uji regresi linear sederhana menggunakan aplikasi SPSS for windows v26. Hasil penelitian ini membuktikan bahwa terdapat pengaruh positif yang signifikan dari money attitude terhadap financial well-being dengan dibuktikan hasil R = 0,500 dengan sig.0,000 < 0,05 dan nilai R2 = 0,250. Hal ini berarti bahwa money attitude memberikan sumbangan terhadap financial well-being pada mahasiswa rantau di Universitas Mercu Buana Meruya sebesar 25% dan sisanya dipengaruhi oleh variabel lain diluar penelitian ini.
