Abstract

The low emotional intelligence of vocational students in West Jakarta is influenced by students' inability to express their emotions, in this case alexithymia. This study aims to determine the effect of alexithymia on emotional intelligence in vocational students in West Jakarta. This study uses a quantitative approach with regression method. Respondents in this study were 317 vocational students in West Jakarta. The measuring instrument used in the Alexithymia variable is the TAS-20 by Taylor, et al (1994) and Emotional Intelligence using the TEIQUE-SF measuring instrument by Petrides and Furham (2001). The results of the analysis with the regression method show that there is an influence of alexithymia on emotional intelligence in vocational students in West Jakarta as evidenced by the significance value of 0.000 <0.05 and R Square of 38.5%, which can be concluded that there is a significant influence of alexithymia on emotional intelligence in vocational students in West Jakarta by 38.5%. This research is expected to be a reference for vocational students in knowing the importance of understanding, managing and dealing with their emotions well. This will certainly increase emotional intelligence and minimize students experiencing alexithymia, in order to build self-awareness and achieve success in academics and social life in vocational students. Keywords : Alexithymia, Emotional Intelligence, Vocational School Students Masih rendahnya kecerdasan emosional pada siswa SMK di Jakarta Barat yang dipengaruhi oleh ketidakmampuan siswa dalam mengekspresikan emosinya, dalam hal ini alexithymia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh alexithymia terhadap kecerdasan emosional pada siswa SMK di Jakarta Barat. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode regresi. Responden pada penelitian ini sebanyak 317 siswa SMK di Jakarta Barat. Alat ukur yang digunakan pada variabel Alexithymia yaitu TAS-20 oleh Taylor, et al (1994) dan Kecerdasan Emosional menggunakan alat ukur TEIQUE-SF oleh Petrides dan Furham (2001). Hasil analisis dengan metode regresi yang menunjukan terdapat pengaruh alexithymia terhadap kecerdasan emosional pada siswa SMK di Jakarta Barat yang dibuktikan dengan nilai signifikansi 0,000 < 0,05 dan R Square sebesar 38,5%, yang dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan alexithymia terhadap kecerdasan emosional pada siswa SMK di Jakarta Barat sebesar 38,5%. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat menjadi acuan bagi siswa SMK dalam mengetahui pentingnya memahami, mengelola dan mengatasi emosinya dengan baik. Hal ini tentunya akan meningkatkan kecerdasan emosional dan meminimalisir siswa mengalami alexithymia, guna membangun self awareness dan mencapai keberhasilan dalam akademik serta kehidupan sosial pada siswa SMK.
