Abstract

The need for power plants that utilize environmentally friendly renewable energy sources is very important amidst climate change and global heat. Solar panels are one of the popular options because they utilize solar energy, which is very abundant in Indonesia due to its location near the equator. However, many factors influence the results of electrical energy production from solar panels. Indonesia, as a tropical country, has great potential to develop and utilize solar energy as a renewable energy conversion system. It is hoped that the use of solar energy can help overcome the problem of decreasing existing conventional fuel reserves. Based on data from the Directorate General of Electricity and Energy Development in 1997, the installed capacity of solar electricity in Indonesia reached 0.88 MW from the available potential of around 1.2 x 109 MW. In terms of solar panel types, Polycrystalline solar cells are a type of photovoltaic solar panel that uses polycrystalline solar cells. Polycrystalline solar cells are made from semiconductor materials such as silicon which have a more complex crystal structure than monocrystalline solar cells. Polycrystalline solar cells consist of many small crystal grains that produce a distinctive dark blue appearance. Keywords: Renewable energy, Solar Energy, Solar panels. Kebutuhan akan pembangkit listrik yang memanfaatkan sumber energi terbarukan yang ramah lingkungan sangatlah penting di tengah adanya perubahan iklim dan panas global saat ini. Panel surya menjadi salah satu opsi yang diminati karena memanfaatkan energi matahari yang ketersediaannya sangat berlimpah di Indonesia karena letaknya yang berada di sekitar garis khatulistiwa. Namun demikian banyak faktor yang mempengaruhi hasil produksi energi listrik dari panel surya. Indonesia, sebagai negara tropis, memiliki potensi besar untuk mengembangkan dan memanfaatkan energi surya sebagai salah satu sistem konversi energi terbarukan. Penggunaan energi surya diharapkan dapat membantu mengatasi masalah semakin berkurangnya cadangan bahan bakar konvensional yang ada. Berdasarkan data Ditjen Listrik dan Pengembangan Energi pada tahun 1997, kapasitas terpasang listrik tenaga surya di Indonesia mencapai 0,88 MW dari potensi yang tersedia sekitar 1,2 x 109 MW. Dalam hal jenis panel surya, sel surya jenis Polycrystalline adalah salah satu jenis panel surya fotovoltaik yang menggunakan sel surya polikristalin. Sel surya polikristalin terbuat dari bahan semikonduktor seperti silikon yang memiliki struktur kristal yang lebih kompleks daripada sel surya monokristalin. Sel surya polikristalin terdiri dari banyak butiran kristal kecil yang menghasilkan tampilan biru tua yang khas. Kata kunci : Energi terbarukan, Energi Surya, Panel surya.
