Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between social support and mental health among Mercu Buana University students in West Jakarta. In environment that supports students mental health, it is thought that students need good social support and the presence of social support sources will be better able to maintain students mental health. This study was conducted on 217 Mercu Buana University students in West Jakarta (aged 18-27 years) using an accidental sampling technique. The instruments for social support variables were the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) by Zimet, et al. (1988) and the Mental Health Continuum-Short Form (MHC-SF) by Keyes (2002) for mental health variables. Analyzed using the Spearman Rank Correlation technique. The result found that there is a significant positive relationship between social support and mental health in Mercu Buana University students in West Jakarta. This means that the higher the social support received by students, the higher their mental health will be. Keywords: social support, mental health, students university. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara dukungan sosial dengan kesehatan mental pada mahasiswa Universitas Mercu Buana di Jakarta Barat. Dalam lingkungan yang mendukung kesehatan mental mahasiswa, diduga memerlukan dukungan sosial yang baik serta adanya sumber dukungan sosial akan lebih mampu menjaga kesehatan mental mereka. Partisipan sebanyak 217 mahasiswa Universitas Mercu Buana di Jakarta Barat (usia 18-27 tahun) dengan menggunakan teknik accidental sampling. Instrumen untuk variabel dukungan sosial adalah the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) oleh Zimet, et al. (1988) dan the Mental Health Continuum-Short Form (MHC-SF) oleh Keyes (2002) untuk variabel kesehatan mental. Dengan analisis menggunakan teknik Spearman Rank Correlation. Hasil ditemukan terdapat hubungan positif yang signifikan antara dukungan sosial dengan kesehatan mental pada mahasiswa Universitas Mercu Buana di Jakarta Barat. Hal ini berarti semakin tinggi dukungan sosial yang diterima pada diri mahasiswa maka akan semakin tinggi kesehatan mentalnya. Kata Kunci: dukungan sosial, kesehatan mental, mahasiswa.
