Abstract

Boiler is an equipment that play an important role in the electricity generation process at Powerplant Refinery Unit V Balikpapan. The boiler itself is the main source for producing steam needs in the refinery as a driving for the Steam Turbine Generator in the powerplant and is used as an electricity generator. The boiler at RU V Balikpapan is a type of High-High Pressure (HHP) where the steam produced from the boiler is in the form of a steam output of 60 bar which is used to drive the Steam Turbine Generator and some of the output from this 60 bar steam is converted into a steam output of 32 bar. 17 bar, 10 bar, and 3.5 bar using converting according to requirements at the refinery. In current actual conditions, the boiler efficiency value is 73.21%, where when compared with the efficiency during the Performance Test with an efficiency value of 80.74%, there has been a decrease in efficiency of 7.53%. There is fouling in the economizer as well as dust and soot sticking to the boiler tubes due to combustion residue which is the main cause of the reduction in the boiler's ability to absorb heat from flue gas so that the boiler requires a larger fuel supply to produce the desired steam. Keywords: Boiler, High-High Pressure (HHP), steam, converting, efficiency, Boiler merupakan equipment yang berperan penting dalam proses pembangkitan listrik di Powerplant Refinery Unit V Balikpapan. Boiler itu sendiri menjadi sumber utama dalam memproduksi kebutuhan steam di kilang sebagai media penggerak dari Steam Turbine Generator yang ada di powerplant dan digunakan sebagai pembangkit listrik. Boiler yang terdapat di RU V Balikpapan merupakan jenis boiler High-High Pressure (HHP) dimana steam yang dihasilkan dari boiler berupa output steam 60 bar yang dimanfaatkan sebagai penggerak Steam Turbine Generator dan sebagian output dari steam 60 bar ini dikonversikan menjadi output steam 32 bar, 17 bar, 10 bar, dan 3,5 bar dengan menggunakan converting sesuai kebutuhan di kilang. Dalam kondisi aktual saat ini didapat nilai efisiensi boiler sebesar 73,21 % dimana jika dibandingkan dengan efisiensi pada saat Performance Test dengan nilai efisiensi 80,74% telah terjadi penurunan efisiensi sebesar 7,53 %. Terdapat fouling pada economizer serta debu dan jelaga yang menempel pada tube-tube boiler akibat sisa dari pembakaran menjadi penyebab utama dari penurunan kemampuan boiler dalam menyerap panas dari flue gas sehingga boiler membutuhkan suplai bahan bakar yang lebih besar untuk memproduksi steam yang diharapkan.
