Abstract

Current condition of CO2 emissions is attracting the attention of researchers to find solutions to reduce emissions. One of CO2 capture technique is based on pressure temperature swing adsorption (PTSA) with bentonite sorbent material. The consideration for choosing bentonite is due to its very large availability, in addition to its good CO2 adsorption capacity. The activation process with Na2CO3 material is carried out using a mechanical extrusion tool and then smoothed using a grinding process to obtain a particle size of 200 mesh. The heating process was carried out at a temperature of 800 oC for 3 hours, then cleaning was carried out using a stirring process for 12 hours and ended with a drying process at a temperature of 150 oC for 1 hour. The tests carried out were loose bulk density, Brunauer Emmett and Teller cross-sectional area, TDP-CO2 chemisorption, and X ray diffraction. The results obtained for natural bentonite without activation, CO2 adsorption capacity = 80.90 mgCO2/g with a crosssectional area of 64.62750 m2/g and for bentonite with the most optimum activation at a ratio of 2%, the CO2 adsorption capacity = 28.15 mgCO2/g. with a crosssectional area of 14.68580 m2/g. The effect of the activation process causes the loose bulk density to increase along with the increase in the Na2CO3 ratio from 0.792 g/cm3 to 0.915 g/cm3. The cross-sectional area and pore volume decreased due to the reduction in the tactoid layer due to activation and heating. The interlayer distance decreased from 15Ǻ to 9.74Ǻ based on the results of X ray diffraction. Keywords— CO2, capture, sorbent, emissions, bentonite Kondisi emisi CO2 yang semakin meningkat saat ini menarik perhatian para peneliti untuk mencari solusi mengurangi emisi. Salah satu teknik penangkapan CO2 adalah berbasis pressure temperature swing adsorption (PTSA) dengan material sorben bentonit. Pertimbangan pemilihan bentonit karena ketersediaan yang sangat banyak, selain itu karena kapasitas adsorpsi CO2 yang baik. Proses aktivasi dengan material Na2CO3 dilakukan menggunakan alat ekstrusi mekanis lalu dihaluskan dengan proses grinding untuk memperoleh ukuran partikel 200 mesh. Proses pemanasan dilakukan pada temperatur 800 oC selama 3 jam selanjutnya dilakukan pembersihan dengan proses stirring selama 12 jam dan diakhiri dengan proses pengeringan pada temperatur 150 oC selama 1 jam. Pengujian yang dilakukan adalah loose bulk density, luas penampang Brunauer, Emmett and Teller, chemisorption TDP-CO2, dan X ray diffraction. Hasil yang diperoleh pada bentonit alami tanpa aktivasi kapasitas adsorpsi CO2 = 80,90 mgCO2/g dengan luas penampang 64,62750 m2/g dan untuk bentonit dengan aktivasi yang paling optimum pada rasio 2% diperoleh kapasitas adsorpsi CO2 = 28,15 mgCO2/g dengan luas penampang 14,68580 m2/g. Pengaruh proses aktivasi menyebabkan loose bulk density meningkat seiring dengan peningkatan rasio Na2CO3 dari 0,792 g/cm3 menjadi 0,915 g/cm3. Luas penampang dan volume pori mengalami penurunan dikarenakan berkurangnya lapisan tactoid disebabkan aktivasi dan pemanasan. Jarak interlayer mengalami penurunan dari 15Ǻ menjadi 9,74Ǻ berdasarkan hasil dari X ray diffraction. Kata kunci— CO2, penangkapan, sorben, emisi, bentonit
