Abstract
This study aims to determine the relationship between academic motivation and academic stress in students who take thesis at University X West Jakarta. Determination of the number of samples was calculated using G-Power software with Cohen's (1988) parameters, medium effect size, namely 0.3, significance level of 0.05 (5%), statistical power of 0.8 (80%), so the minimum number of samples for analysis were 84 respondents. The sampling technique in this study used nonprobability incidental sampling. The academic motivation measurement tool was developed by Vallerand et al. based on self-determination theory (Deci & Ryan, 1985) and has been adapted into Indonesian by Natalya & Puwanto (30 question items). academic stress measurement tool developed by Gadzella (51 question items). The results of the study show that there is a significant negative relationship between academic motivation and academic stress. However, for the categorization of academic motivation and academic stress, it is still in the medium category, where students are still able to bring up attitudes, interests, and reasons for continuing to complete their thesis, students can maintain motivation at a high level because of extrinsic motivation that plays a role, thus creating tension. The dominant perceived reaction to the stressor turns into motivation to move forward. Kata Kunci : Academic Motivation, Academic Stress Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan motivasi akademik dan stres akademik pada mahasiswa yang mengambil Skripsi Di Universitas X Jakarta Barat. Penentuan jumlah sampel dihitung menggunakan software G-Power dengan parameter Cohen’s (1988) medium effect size yaitu 0,3, taraf signifikansi 0,05 (5%), statistical power 0,8 (80%), maka jumlah sampel minimal untuk untuk analisis adalah 84 responden. Teknik pengambilan sampel dalam penelitian ini menggunakan non probability incidental sampling. Alat ukur motivasi akademik dikembangkan oleh Vallerand et al. berdasarkan self-determination theory yang menjadi dasar teori motivasi akademik (Deci & Ryan,1985) dan telah diadaptasi kedalam Bahasa Indonesia oleh Natalya & Puwanto (30 item pertanyaan). alat ukur stress akademik dikembangkan oleh Gadzella (51 item pertanyaan). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada hubungan negatif yang signifikan antara motivasi akademik dengan stres akademik. Namun demikian untuk kategorisasi motivasi akademik dan stres akademik masih berada pada kategori sedang, dimana mahasiswa masih mampu memunculkan sikap, minat, dan alasan untuk tetap menyelesaikan skripsi, para mahasiswa bisa mempertahankan motivasi di tingkat yang tinggi karena adanya motivasi ekstrinsik yang berperan, sehingga membuat ketegangan yang dirasakan dominan dari rekasi terhadap stressor berubah menjadi motivasi untuk bergerak maju.
