Abstract

PT Metrocom Global Solusi is a company engaged in information and communication technology. The company provides solutions and services in the development of technology infrastructure, information systems, and communication networks to meet customer business needs. To support customer demand, employees are required to be always ready with stable internet from laptops and Personal Computer (PC). However, there are often problems with the internal office network caused by switches that are down or dead and there is no solution or backup path that has an impact on employee performance. Office management requested an improvement and solution to the problem, so the researchers conducted research using spanning tree technology on the Cisco Packet Tracer Simulator to test the new network topology and provide a backup path set with Spanning Tree Priority. The results of the study show that the use of Spanning Tree Protocol can provide a backup path and if one of the distribution switches dies, the root on the network will automatically switch to another distribution switch. If the distribution switch dies, the employee's laptop or PC will still get the internet network, so this is expected to improve employee performance. keywords: spanning tree, backup, topologi mesh, distribusi, switch PT Metrocom Global Solusi adalah sebuah perusahaan yang bergerak di bidang teknologi informasi dan komunikasi. Perusahaan ini menyediakan solusi dan layanan dalam pengembangan infrastruktur teknologi, sistem informasi, dan jaringan komunikasi untuk memenuhi kebutuhan bisnis pelanggan. Untuk mendukung permintaan pelanggan, karyawan diharuskan dapat selalu siap dengan internet yang stabil dari laptop maupun Personal Computer (PC). Namun, sering kali terjadi masalah pada jaringan internal kantor yang disebabkan oleh switch yang mengalami down atau mati dan belum adanya solusi atau jalur backup yang berdampak pada kinerja karyawan. Manajemen kantor meminta untuk ada peningkatan dan solusi dari masalah tersebut, untuk itu peneliti melakukan penelitian menggunakan teknologi spanning tree pada Simulator Cisco Packet Tracer untuk menguji topologi jaringan baru dan menyediakan jalur backup yang diatur dengan Spanning Tree Priority. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukan bahwa penggunaan Spanning Tree Protocol dapat menyediakan jalur backup dan apabila salah satu switch distribusi mati, root pada jaringan akan otomatis berganti ke switch distribusi yang lain. Bila switch distribusi mati maka laptop atau PC karyawan akan tetap mendapatkan jaringan internet, sehingga hal ini diharapkan dapat meningkatkan kinerja karyawan. kata kunci: spanning tree, backup, topologi mesh, distribusi, switch
