Abstract

MICE adalah singkatan dari Meeting, Incentive, Convention, Exhibition. MICE adalah jenis kegiatan yang terdapat dalam industri pariwisata, kegiatan ini telah di rencakanan secara matang oleh suatu kelompok atau kumpulan orang yang memiliki kesamaan tujuan dalam penyelenggaran kegiatan tersebut. Dunia MICE merupakan dunia bisnis yang sangat menjanjikan namun masih sangat baru dalam masyarakat karena belum banyak memiliki peminat seperti bisnis lainnya. Perkembangan kegiatan Convention merupakan bagian dari industri pariwisata MICE masa kini telah memberikan "warna dalam kegiatan bisnis industri pariwisata dunia", kegiatan konvensi sangat beragam terhadap konstribusinya terhadap kegiatan pariwisata. Kegiatan-kegiatan tersebut berimplikasi meningkatnya kebutuhan ruang dan bangunan untuk fasilitas penyelenggaraan pertemuan dan pameran atau dalam istilah kekinian adalah MICE. Kota Surakarta mempunyai gedung Convention Center, namun terdapat keterbatasan fasilitas konvensi dan pameran jika mengadakan lebih dari satu acara pada satu waktu. Karakter pelaku wisata MICE yang mengikuti perkembangan jaman cocok dengan pendekatan arsitektur kontemporer. Pembangunan fasilitas wisata MICE dengan pendekatan arsitektur kontemporer ini ingin menjadikannya bangunan ini seperti ikon/ pembentuk citra Kota Surakarta, sehingga Surakarta menjadi destinasi wisata MICE yang sangat menarik di Indonesia. Kata kunci: convention and exhibition center, MICE, arsitektur kontemporer MICE stands for Meeting, Incentive, Convention, Exhibition. MICE is a type of activity found in the tourism industry, this activity has been carefully planned by a group or group of people who have the same goals in organizing the activity. The world of MICE is a very promising business world but is still very new in society because it does not have many enthusiasts like other businesses. The development of Convention activities as part of the MICE tourism industry today has given "color in the business activities of the world tourism industry", convention activities are very diverse to their contribution to tourism activities. These activities have implications for increasing the need for space and buildings for facilities for organizing meetings and exhibitions or in contemporary terms is MICE. Surakarta City has a Convention Center building, but there are limited convention and exhibition facilities if holding more than one event at a time. The character of MICE tourists who follow the times is suitable with contemporary architectural approaches. The construction of MICE tourism facilities with a contemporary architectural approach wants to make this building like an icon / image shaper of Surakarta City, so that Surakarta becomes a very attractive MICE tourist destination in Indonesia.
