Abstract

The design of a trailer truck will affect the performance of the vehicle, because there are aerodynamic phenomena around the trailer truck which can increase diesel fuel consumption. The problem that occurs in trailer trucks is fuel consumption which is very large because it has a large value of drag. Therefore this research is focused on reducing the value of drag which affects the drag coefficient and can reduce the value of fuel consumption in trailer trucks. The steps that will be taken are to add a wind deflector at the top of the cabin which aims to reduce the value of drag on a truck, and add several types of tilt angle variations on the wind deflector. This research was carried out using the numerical methods available in the simulation which will be carried out using computational fluid dynamics (CFD), using a trailer truck design that already uses wind deflectors with angle variations of 0°, 25°, 40°, and 50°.
