Abstract

Corrosion is one of the big enemies in the industrial world, some examples of losses caused by corrosion are a decrease in material strength. Corrosion can occur from the reaction of metals with the surrounding environmen, Therefore materials made of metals or their alloys can be damaged. The main material in the filter is made of galvanized plate, namely the end plate components, body, and inner liner. Galvanized plate material has the disadvantage that if it interacts with coolant fluid in the component manufacturing process in the long term, it will corrode. In this study, the corrosion rate between JIS G 3302 Steel Galvanized Coil (SGC) and JIS G 3313 Steel Electrogalvanized Coil (SEC) materials was analyzed by mass loss method. Specimens used with a size of 50 mm x 120 mm x 0.4 mm. The method to be used with the salt spray media NaCl technique concentration of 5% with a variation of test time of 24, 48, and 72 hours. In salt spray testing using ASTM B117-85 test standard. The salt spray test works by creating a mist using a NaCl solution in a closed room, the temperature of which is maintained at 35°C and the spray technique in the compressor is 1 kg/cm2 . From the test results, the largest corrosion rate occurred in SGC specimens at 72 hours time variation with a value of 4,539×10−4 mg/cm²h, while the smallest corrosion rate in SEC specimens at 72 hours time variation with a value of 2,632×10−4 . From the results of the SEM-EDX test, the SGC specimen after salt spray testing for 72 hours showed that the surface on the specimen mostly appeared a thin layer of spots indicating the appearance of corrosion. While in the SEC specimens formed only in the form of spots on several sides affected by corrosion. Therefore, it was concluded that SGC specimens are more susceptible to corrosion than SEC specimens. Keywords: Steel Galvanized Coil (SGC), Steel Electrogalvanized Coil (SEC), Corrosion Rate, Salt Spray Test, SEM-EDX Korosi merupakan salah satu musuh besar dalam dunia industri, beberapa contoh kerugian yang ditimbulkan korosi seperti terjadinya penurunan kekuatan material. Korosi dapat terjadi dari reaksi logam dengan lingkungan di sekitarnya. Oleh karena itu bahan-bahan yang terbuat dari logam atau paduannya dapat mengalami kerusakan. Material utama pada filter terbuat dari plate galvanized yaitu komponen end plate, body, dan inner liner. Material plate galvanized memiliki kelemahan jika berinteraksi dengan cairan coolant pada proses pembuatan komponen dalam jangka lama akan mengalami korosi. Dalam penelitian ini dianalisis laju korosi antara material JIS G 3302 Steel Galvanized Coil (SGC) dan JIS G 3313 Steel Electrogalvanized Coil (SEC) dengan metode kehilangan massa. Spesimen yang digunakan dengan ukuran 50 mm x 120 mm x 0,4 mm. Metode yang digunakan dengan teknik salt spray media NaCl konsentrasi 5% dengan variasi waktu pengujian 24, 48, dan 72 jam. Dalam pengujian salt spray menggunakan standar pengujian ASTM B117. Uji Salt spray bekerja dengan cara membuat kabut menggunakan larutan NaCl dalam ruangan tertutup, temperatur yang dijaga pada 35°C dan tekanan semprot pada kompresor 1 kg/cm2 . Dari hasil pengujian, laju korosi terbesar terjadi pada spesimen SGC pada variasi waktu 72 jam yaitu dengan nilai 4,539×10−4 mg/cm²jam, sedangkan laju korosi terkecil pada spesimen SEC pada variasi waktu 72 jam dengan nilai 2,632×10−4 . Dari hasil pengujian SEM-EDX, pada spesimen SGC setelah pengujian salt spray selama 72 jam menunjukkan permukaan pada spesimen mayoritas timbul lapisan tipis bercak-bercak tanda munculnya korosi. Sedangkan pada spesimen SEC terbentuk hanya berupa titik beberapa sisi yang terdampak korosi. Maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa spesimen SGC lebih rentan terhadap korosi dibandingkan spesimen SEC.
