Abstract

Hydrogen Plant is a unit used to produce Hydrogen and Oxygen by electrolysis of pure water (H20) for gas separation to produce Hydrogen and Oxygen gas. The purity of the hydrogen and oxygen gas produced is above 99%. Hydrogen gas as the main product of the hydrogen plant is used as a coolant in the generator, while oxygen, which is a by-product, is released into the air. Electrolysis is the process of converting electrical energy into chemical energy. The electrolysis process occurs in the electrolyzer, where the electrolysis of pure water occurs into H2 and O2 gas with the help of a KOH solution and direct electric current (DC) is injected. KOH is a basic compound, if it is dissolved in water it will form a KOH solution, the KOH will be a catalyst that functions to facilitate the breaking of hydrogen and oxygen gas bonds in water (H20). In this study, the optimal point for the concentration of KOH solution was at a concentration of 26% - 32%. The electrolyzer voltage tends to be normal at the electrolyzer working temperature of 85oC – 90oC. The results showed that there was an effect of the concentration value of the KOH solution and the working temperature of the electrolyzer on the over voltage of the electrolyzer. The higher the concentration of the KOH solution, the lower the voltage in the electrolyzer and vice versa, the lower the concentration of the KOH solution, the higher the voltage in the electrolyzer. At the low working temperature of the electrolyzer, the voltage tends to increase, while at the highest working temperature of the electrolyzer, the voltage tends to decrease. So the relationship between the concentration value of the KOH solution and the working temperature of the electrolyzer is inversely proportional to the electrolyzer voltage. . Keywords: Hydrogen, Hydrogen Plant, Concentration, KOH Solution, Over Voltage, Electrolyzer, Electrolysis Hydrogen Plant merupakan unit yang digunakan untuk memproduksi Hidrogen dan Oksigen dengan melakukan elektrolisa air murni (H20) untuk dilakukan pemisahan gas sehingga dihasilkan gas Hidrogen dan Oksigen. Kemurnian gas Hidrogen dan Oksigen yang dihasilkan adalah diatas 99%. Gas Hidrogen sebagai produk utama dari hidrogen plant digunakan sebagai pendingin pada generator, sedangkan Oksigen yang merupakan produk sampingan di lepas ke udara. Elektrolisa adalah peristiwa perubahan energi listrik menjadi energi kimia. Proses elektrolisa tersebut terjadi di electrolyzer, tempat terjadinya elektrolisa air murni menjadi gas H2 dan O2 dengan bantuan larutan KOH dan diinjeksi arus listrik searah (DC). KOH merupakan senyawa basa, jika dilarutkan ke dalam air maka akan membentuk larutan KOH, KOH tersebut akan menjadi katalisator yang berfungsi mempermudah pemutusan ikatan gas Hidrogen dan Oksigen dalam air (H20). Pada penelitian ini diperoleh titik optimal konsentrasi larutan KOH yaitu pada konsentrasi 26% - 32%. Tegangan electrolyzer cenderung normal pada temperatur kerja electrolyzer 85oC – 90oC. Hasil penelitian diketahui bahwa terdapat pengaruh nilai konsentrasi larutan KOH dan Temperatur kerja electrolyzer terhadap over voltage pada electrolyzer. Semakin tinggi konsentrasi larutan KOH maka semakin rendah tegangan di electrolyzer begitu pula sebaliknya semakin rendah konsentrasi larutan KOH maka dapat menyebabkan kenaikan tegangan di electrolyzer. Pada temperatur kerja electrolyzer yang rendah tegangan cenderung naik, sedangkan pada temperatur kerja electrolyzer tertinggi tegangan cenderung turun. Sehingga hubungan antara nilai konsentrasi larutan KOH dan temperatur kerja electrolyzer berbanding terbalik dengan tegangan electrolyzer.
