Abstract

The increasing population growth in Indonesia, especially Jakarta, causes the lack of land to live in and open a place of business, the available land does not meet the existing demand from the community so that land and buildings are more expensive every year. Since ancient times, shop-houses have been known in Indonesia as an alternative to housing as well as a place of business, shop-houses are the right solution for people who want to have a residence as well as a place of business to achieve economic and time efficiency. Along with the development of time, there are some changes to the shop both in the function and the pattern of its interior, the researchers saw this phenomenon in one shop located in the area of Jl. Danau Sunter Utara, North Jakarta, where shophouses are different between shophouses with other shophouses, it is interesting to study further to find out what patterns of shophouses are experiencing changes based on the type of business found in the shophouses. Keywords: Shophouse, Change in Function, Change in Space-Pattern, Type of Business. Meningkatnya pertumbuhan penduduk yang ada di Indonesia khususnya Jakarta menyebabkan kurangnya lahan untuk ditinggali maupun membuka tempat usaha, tanah yang tersedia tidak mencukupi permintaan yang ada dari masyarakat, sehingga tanah dan bangunan yang ada semakin mahal setiap tahunnya. Sejak zaman dahulu rumah-toko sudah dikenal di Indonesia sebagai alternatif hunian sekaligus tempat usaha, rumah-toko merupakan solusi yang tepat bagi orang–orang yang ingin memiliki hunian sekaligus tempat usaha sehingga dapat tercapai efisiensi ekonomi dan waktu. Seiring dengan perkembangan waktu terdapat beberapa perubahan pada ruko baik itu dalam fungsi maupun pola ruang dalamnya, peneliti melihat fenomena ini pada salah satu ruko yang berlokasi pada kawasan Jl. Danau Sunter Utara, Jakarta Utara, dimana ruang dalam ruko berbeda antara ruko satu dengan ruko lainnya, hal ini menarik untuk dikaji lebih lanjut agar dapat diketahui pola ruang dalam ruko apa saja yang mengalami perubahan berdasarkan jenis usaha yang ditemukan pada ruko daerah tersebut.
