Abstract
Indonesia is one of the countries that has not used wind energy as a power plant. Even though the wind speed in Indonesia is low with an average annual rate of around 5 – 7 m/s, it can still be utilized by using a spiral type horizontal axis speed turbine (TASH) which can work at wind speeds between 3.5 – 4.5 m/s . The purpose of this research is to verify the performance of a spiral blade wind turbine. Turbine performance is assessed through measured parameters such as actual power value, torque value, rotor speed and power coefficient, torque coefficient, and tip speed ratio (TSR) as non-dimensional parameters. The research was carried out in a series of laboratory tests through a wind tunnel with various wind speeds from 1 m/s to 10 m/s. The results show that the TASH model can operate at low wind speeds with a TSR <1.0, and shows a torque coefficient value Ct = 0.58 at a wind speed of 2m/s and at a speed of 10 m/s shows a value of Ct = 0.24 meaning that this model is tash. has pretty good self-torque capability and this tash model shows a Cp power coefficient value of 0.116 at a speed of 3 m/s. Keywords: spiral style TASH; power coefficient Cp; torque coefficient Ct; Tip Speed Ratio ,TSR; Wind Tunnels Indonesia merupakan salah satu negara yang belum banyak memanfaatkan energi angin sebagai pembangkit listrik. Walaupun kecepatan angin di Indonesia rendah dengan rata rata pertahun sekitar 5 – 7 m/s, namun masih dapat dimanfaatkan dengan menggunakan turbin kecepatan sumbu horizontal (TASH) tipe spiral yang dapat bekerja pada kecepatan angin antara 3,5 – 4,5 m / s. Tujuan dari penilitian ini adalah untuk memverifikasi kinerja turbin angin model bilah spiral. Kinerja turbin dinilai melalui parameter terukur seperti nilai daya aktual, nilai torsi, kecepatan rotor dan koefisien daya, koefisien torsi, dan tip speed ratio (TSR) sebagai parameter nondimensi. Penelitian dilakukan dalam rangkaian uji laboratorium melalui terowongan angin dengan berbagai kecepatan angin dari 1 m/s hingga 10 m/s. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan model TASH dapat beroperasi pada kecepatan angin rendah dengan TSR <1.0, dan menunjukan nilai coefficient torque Ct = 0,58 pada kecepatan angin 2m/s dan pada kecepatan 10 m/s menunjukan nilai Ct = 0,24 artinya tash model ini memiliki self torque capability yang cukup bagus serta model tash ini menunjukan nilai coefficient power Cp 0,116 pada kecepatan 3 m/s.
