Abstract

Flap peening is a cold working process where tungsten carbide ball on the flapper hit and peening on the surface of material structure which can improve lifetime and material surface quality without increasing their weight, where in the aerospace industry weight and fatigue are key issues. Flap peening process expected can improve material property and resistance doe to fatigue and corrosion fatigue. Intensity is key indicator to create optimum flap peening process result. The best intensity aluminum alloy 2024-T3 can be reach with 2000 rpm which resuting intensity value about 0,1803 mmN (0,1803 mm in arc height, N is almen test type N). The test of mechanical property to surface of aluminum alloy 2024-T3 are surface roughness test and hardeness (rockwell) test due to increasing flapper rotational speed. From the test known that with optimum flap peening speed can improve hardeness of material about 77,01 HRB and surface roughness about 4,811 Ra. Keywords: Flap peening, Peening intensity, aluminium alloy 2024-T3, Hardeness, Surface rouhgness Flap peening adalah sebuah proses perlakuan dingin (Cold Working) yang mana bola tungsten carbide berada di ujung flapper yang berputar menekan dan menumbuk semua permukaan dari struktur material sehingga dapat meningkatkan umur dan kualitas permukaan material tanpa menambah berat, dimana dalam industri penerbangan berat dan ketahanan material terhadap beban yang dialaminya sangatlah penting. Proses flap peening diharapkan dapat meningkatkan sifat material dan ketahanannya terhadap fatigue dan corrosion fatigue. Untuk menghasilkan proses flap peening yang baik indikator utama yang ditentukan adalah intensitas peening. Dimana intensitas peening paling optimal untuk aluminum alloy 2024-T3 dapat dicapai dengan kecepatan putaran flap 2000 rpm nilai intensitas peening yang dihasilkan sebesar 0,1803 mmN (0,1803 mm tinggi kelengkungan, N adalah almen test tipe N). Pengujian sifat mekanik permukaan aluminum alloy 2024-T3 adalah dengan pengujian kekerasan (rockwell) dan kekasaran permukaan material seiring dengan kenaikan kecepatan putaran flap peening. Diketahui proses flap peening dengan kecepatan optimal dapat meningkatkan kekerasan material yaitu sebesar 77,01 HRB dan kekasaran permukaan 4,811 Ra. Kata Kunci: Flap peening, Intensitas peening, Aluminium Alloy 2024-T3, Kekerasan, Kekasaran permukaan.
