Abstract

Cooling towers are one of the most important pieces of equipment to reduce the temperature of cooling water in the palm oil processing process, which currently has a problem with the capacity to flow water that exceeds its required limit. If this condition is allowed to continue, it will lead to wasteful use of electric power, resulting in overbudget utilities at the plant and causing high production costs. Based on this problem, it is necessary to conduct a study on what methods can be used to reduce the power consumption of the cooling tower equipment so that it remains in its normal condition. The hypothesis of this study is that after installing the interconnection lines, power consumption will decrease and the efficiency of the cooling tower will remain the same. The method that will be carried out in this study is to install interconnection lines on both cooling towers and observe the temperature conditions on the cooling towers before and after installing the interconnection lines at plant load conditions of 50%, 75% and 100%. From the data processing and analysis, it was obtained that the condition efficiency values before the installation of the interconnection lines were 83.2%, 82.3% and 81.7%. And after the installation of interconnections of 81.6%, 81.3% and 80.1%. It can be concluded that there is no significant difference in the value of cooling tower efficiency. The results of this study can be used as reference data or recommendations if the same problem occurs again. Keywords: equipment, efficiency, interconnection, cooling tower. Menara pendingin atau Cooling Tower merupakan salah satu equipment yang sangat penting sebagai penurun suhu terhadap air cooling pada proses pengolahan kelapa sawit yang mana saat ini memiliki masalah pada kapasitas flow air yang melebihi batas kebutuhannya. Apabila kondisi tersebut dibiarkan maka akan menyebabkan pemakaian daya listrik yang boros, sehingga mengakibatkan overbudget utility pada plant dan menyebabkan besarnya biaya produksi. Dari masalah tersebut perlu dilakukan sebuah studi tentang metode apa yang bisa dilakukan untuk menurunkan pemakaian daya listrik terhadap equipment cooling tower tersebut agar tetap pada kondisi normalnya. Hipotesis dari penelitian ini adalah setelah dilakukan pemasangan jalur interkoneksi pemakaian daya akan turun dan efisiensi cooling tower tetap sama. Metode yang akan dilakukan pada penelitian ini adalah dengan melakukan pemasangan jalur interkoneksi pada kedua cooling tower dan mengamati kondisi temperatur pada cooling tower sebelum dan setelah pemasangan jalur interkoneksi pada kondisi load plant sebesar 50%, 75% dan 100%. Dari proses pengolahan data dan analisa diperoleh nilai efisiensi kondisi pada saat sebelum pemasangan jalur interkoneksi sebesar 83.2%, 82.3% dan 81.7%. Dan setelah pemasangan interkoneksi sebesar 81.6%, 81.3%, dan 80.1%. Hal ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa tidak terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan terhadap nilai efisiensi cooling tower. Hasil penelitian tersebut dapat dijadikan sebagai data acuan atau rekomendasi apabila terjadi kembali masalah yang sama. Kata Kunci: equipment, efisiensi, interkoneksi, menara pendingin.
