Abstract

The objectives of this research are to findout competitive position of Islamic Commercial Bank (ICB) and whether Blue Ocean Strategy (BOS) is suitable for ICB, to formulate corporate strategy of ICB based on BOS approaches. This research is designed exploratively to study Indonesian ICB that amounted 11 banks. The respondents are strategists of ICB and islamic banking industry analysts. Due to no answer from analysts this paper used secondary data from Governor Deputy of Bank Indonesia. The primary data are analyzed by Likert scale, and secondary data by mathematical models. Majority of respondents are agree with corporate strategy of BUS which have formulated in this thesis. The tools of strategy analysis resulted that BOS is suitable corporate strategy for ICB which formulated as followed : 1) Eliminate luxury of facilities, exclusive image of shariah bank, and deposits interest, 2) Reduce credit card and excessive branch office but narrowed coverage, 3) Raise internet banking, advantage of profit sharing system, cash management, bank transactional, corporate banking, retail banking, and fee based income, 4) Create universality of shariah value, time visits on weekend, direct banking, fast service innovation, public social fund service by cross selling, collective depositors, focus on market development.
