Abstract

In a lightning protection system, especially in parts made of metal, they are always faced with various kinds of problems, one of which is corrosion. Corrosion of the thermit welding connection or exothermic welding on 70 mm bare copper cable NYA70 media is very possible, because in the placement of this exothermic welding connection it is usually used in the ground or ground directly on a lightning rod system. Each soil condition in various regions is very different as is the environmental condition in the region itself, these conditions make each soil have a different temperature, humidity, acidity. Therefore, it is necessary to further analyze the corrosion rate in exothermic welding in a lightning rod system to avoid system failure. By using the weight loss method to measure the corrosion rate in exothermic welding on 70 mm bare copper cable NYA70 media, it can describe the corrosion that occurred during the test time 9 month period. SEM testing on the surface of exothermic welding with 70 mm bare copper cable NYA70 media can provide information on morphological conditions before and after testing the corrosion rate using the weight loss method. Keywords: Corrosion, Weight Loss, Exothermic Welding, Cable NYA 70 Dalam sebuah sistem penangkal petir atau lightning protection system, khususnya di bagian yang berbahan logam selalu berhadapan dengan berbagai macam masalah, salah satunya adalah korosi. Korosi pada bagian sambungan pengelasan thermit atau exothermic welding di media kabel tembaga NYA70 ukuran 70 mm sangatlah mungkin terjadi, karena pada penempatan sambungan exothermic welding ini biasa digunakan di dalam tanah atau ground secara langsung pada sebuah sistem penangkal petir. Setiap kondisi pada tanah di berbagai wilayah sangat berbeda sebagaimana kondisi lingkungan pada wilayah itu sendiri, kondisi tersebut yang membuat setiap tanah memiliki suhu, kelembapan, zat asam yang berbeda. Oleh sebab itu diperlukan analisa lebih lanjut tentang laju korosi pada exothermic welding pada sebuah sistem penangkal petir untuk menghindari kegagalan pada sistem. Dengan menggunakan metode kehilangan berat atau weight loss untuk mengukur laju korosi pada exothermic welding di media kabel tembaga NYA70 ukuran 70 mm dapat menggambarkan korosi yang terjadi selama periode 9 bulan waktu pengujian. Pengujian SEM di permukaan exothermic welding dengan media kabel tembaga NYA70 ukuran 70 mm dapat memberikan informasi kondisi morfologi sebelum dan sesudah pengujian laju korosi dengan metode weight loss.
