Abstract
The purpose of this study was to find out whether there is a role of self-esteem in celebrity worship in adolescents and early adults of idol fans. The method used in this study is a quantitative method with simple linear analysis techniques. The sampling technique used with the non-probability sampling method with the accidental sampling technique. The number of respondents used in this study was 216 adolescent respondents and 364 early adult respondents. The measuring instrument used in this study was Rosenberg's Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSE) (1965) which was modified by Maroqi (2018) and used Maltby's Celebrity Attitude Scale (CAS) measuring instrument (2006). The results of this study is that in adolescent data, there is a positive role of self-esteem in the entertainment-social aspects (r = 0.222) (R Square = 0.049) and in the intense-personal aspects (r = 0.144) (R Square = 0.021). In the early adult data, there is a role of self-esteem in the entertainment-social aspects (r = 0.119) (R Square = 0.014). The positive role in this study means that the higher the self-esteem, the higher the celebrity worship. Keywords: Self-esteem, Celebrity Worship, Idol Fans, Teens, Early Adulthood Tujuan dalam penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat peran selfesteem dalam celebrity worship pada remaja dan dewasa awal penggemar idol. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu metode kuantitatif dengan teknik analisis linear sederhana. Teknik sampling yang digunakan dengan metode nonprobability sampling dengan teknik accidental sampling. Jumlah responden yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 216 responden remaja dan 364 responden dewasa awal. Alat ukur yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu Rosenberg SelfEsteem Scale (RSE) milik Rosenberg (1965) yang telah dimodifikasi oleh Maroqi (2018) serta menggunakan alat ukur Celebrity Attitude Scale (CAS) milik Maltby (2006). Hasil dari penelitian ini yaitu pada data remaja terdapat peran positif selfesteem dalam aspek entertainment-social (r = 0,222) (R Square = 0,049) dan dalam aspek intense-personal (r = 0,144) (R Square = 0,021). Pada data dewasa awal terdapat peran self-esteem dalam aspek entertainment-social (r = 0,119) (R Square = 0,014). Peran positif dalam penelitian ini memiliki arti bahwa semakin tinggi selfesteem maka semakin tinggi juga celebrity worship.
