Abstract

The presence of new media gives a new color in how to communicate. Now communication is mostly done online through a variety of social media and instant messanger. Uniquely there is an application specifically designed for gay homosexuals, the Hornet application. This application is a social networking application based on geolocation and there are chat features in it. This application is an alternative media for gays connected to each other because in the real world the existence of gays has not been fully accepted. Even though the gay population in Indonesia cannot be underestimated and it is believed that the number is increasing every year according to the Ministry of Health. In the process of communication that occurs in Hornet, between users can chat personally and intensively. The chat process can take a long time or only briefly, depending on the compatibility between the parties. Various communication objectives in Hornet. The research method used in this research is descriptive qualitative with a case study approach. Using the constructivism paradigm because this paradigm believes reality is not natural, but rather the result of construction. The research subjects were selected purposively based on four criteria until three informants were selected. Primary data obtained from in-depth interviews, then secondary data from the results of screenshot photos on communication activities in the Hornet application and as supplementary data using the results of library research. From the research, it is known that interpersonal communication patterns in Hornet applications are circular communication patterns, expressed by Schramm. This means that throughout the communication process, communicator and communicant positions continue to exchange because they both send and receive messages and feedback in turn. Both have a balanced position. And the reality Hornet application is not just to make it easier for gays to connect, but can cause social problems such as criminal acts, HIV / AIDS and child prostitution. Keywords: Communication, Interpersonal Communication, New Media, Gay Phenomenon Kehadiran new media memberikan warna baru dalam cara berkomunikasi. Kini komunikasi banyak dilakukan secara online melalui beragam media sosial dan instant messanger. Uniknya ada aplikasi yang khusus dirancang bagi golongan homoseksual gay, yaitu aplikasi Hornet. Aplikasi ini merupakan aplikasi social networking berdasarkan geolocation dan terdapat fitur chat di dalamnya. Aplikasi ini menjadi media alternatif kaum gay saling terhubung karena di dunia nyata keberadaan kaum gay belum sepenuhnya diterima. Padahal populasi gay di Indonesia pun sudah tidak bisa dianggap remeh dan diyakini jumlahnya semakin meningkat setiap tahun menurut Kemenkes. Dalam proses komunikasi yang terjadi dalam Hornet, antar pengguna bisa chating secara personal dan intensif. Proses chating bisa berlangsung lama maupun hanya sebentar, bergantung pada kecocokan antar pihak. Beragam tujuan komunikasi dalam Hornet. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kualitatif deskriptif dengan pendekatan studi kasus. Menggunakan paradigma konstruktivisme karena paradigma ini meyakini realitas bersifat tidak alamiah, melainkan hasil dari konstruksi. Subjek penelitian dipilih secara purposive berdasarkan empat kriteria hingga terpilih tiga informan. Data primer didapat dari wawancara mendalam kepada informan, kemudian data sekunder dari hasil foto screenshot pada aktivitas komunikasi dalam aplikasi Hornet dan sebagai data pelengkap menggunakan hasil riset kepustakaan. Dari penelitian yang dilakukan, diketahui bahwa pola komunikasi interpersonal dalam aplikasi Hornet merupakan pola komunikasi sirkuler, seperti pola yang diungkapkan oleh Schramm. Artinya sepanjang proses komunikasi, posisi komunikator dan komunikan terus bertukar karena keduanya saling mengirim dan menerima pesan dan feedback secara bergantian. Keduanya memiliki posisi seimbang. Dan realitasnya aplikasi Hornet bukan sekedar memudahkan sesama gay terhubung, namun dapat menimbulkan masalah sosial seperti tindakan kriminal hingga penularan HIV/AIDS dan prostitusi anak dibawah umur.
