Abstract

Electrical energy is one of the important needs in coastal communities, especially in small islands that are not reached by the national electricity grid. In this thesis, the author examines the potential utilization of ocean current energy, with the characteristics of ocean currents in Indonesia. Based on this potential to maximize the energy of ocean currents, the authors developed the design of the Gorlov turbine as an efficient power generation turbine in accordance with the characteristics of the sea in Indonesia, using a CFD based software method. The results of the software obtained are parameters as a geometrical form of a power plant turbine, which includes the magnitude of the hydrodynamic force, the coefficient of power, the coefficient of drag and the torque produced. The results obtained from the Turbine Gorlov 4 Turbine with a 0.15 m chord that get a maximum Cp value of 0.2 or 20% using a current speed of 2 m / s. These results are the best Coefficient Power of the three models, with a power of 55 watts. Key word: Turbine Gorlov, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Ocean Current. Energi listrik merupakan salah satu kebutuhan penting dalam masyarakat pesisir terutama diwilayah pulau – pulau kecil yang tidak terjangkau jaringan listrik nasional. Dalam tugas akhir ini, penulis meneliti pemanfaatan potensi energi arus laut, dengan karakteristik arus laut di Indonesia. Berdasarkan potensi tersebut untuk memaksimalkan energi arus laut, penulis melakukan pengengembangan perancangan turbin Gorlov sebagai turbin pembangkit listrik tepat guna sesuai karakteristik laut di Indonesia, dengan metode berbasis perangkat lunak CFD. Hasil dari software yang didapat yaitu parameter – parameter sebagai bentuk geometri sebuah turbin pembangkit listrik, yang meliputi besarnya gaya hidrodinamik, coefficient power, coefficient drag dan torsi yang dihasilkan. Hasil yang diperoleh dari dari Turbin Gorlov 4 Sudu dengan chord 0,15 m yang mendapatkan nilai Cp maksimal sebesar 0,2 atau 20% menggunakan kecepatan arus 2 m/s. Hasil tersebut merupakan Coefficient Power terbaik dari ketiga model, dengan menghasilkan daya sebesar 55 watt. Kata kunci: Turbin Gorlov, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Ocean Current.
