Abstract

This study aims to determine whether there is an effect of academic stress on emotional eating in final semester students during the covid-19 pandemic. This study uses a quantitative approach with linear regression analysis method, to determine the effect of academic stress on emotional eating. The subjects in this study were students in the final semester of university x during the covid-19 pandemic. The number of respondents in this study were 154 respondents. The instruments used in this study are the Emotional Eating Scale (EES) developed by Goldbacher, Grunwald and LaGrotte (2012), the Student Life Stress Inventory (SLSI) developed by Bernadette M. Gadzella (1991). The results showed that the relationship between the academic stress variable and emotional eating showed a significant positive relationship with a coefficient value of 0.774**, thus the higher the academic stress, the higher the emotional eating and vice versa. The Hypothesis result is 59.9% of which 40.1% is influenced by body dissatisfaction of Chinese children and adolescents. The level of academic stress in this study was at a moderate level, then emotional eating was in the moderate category.
