Abstract
During the transition from adolescence to adulthood, maintaining appearance is important, especially for women who want to look more beautiful and attractive. This causes the emergence of anxiety when receiving an evaluation from the social environment regarding their physical appearance. Body image and self-esteem of early adult women are expected to help reduce the level of anxiety that early adult women have. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between body image and self-esteem with social appearance anxiety in early adult women. The research method used is quantitative method with accidental sampling technique and the total participants used are 229 people. The Social Appearance Anxiety measuring tool uses an adaptation of the SAAS (Social Appearance Anxiety Scale) which consists of 16 items, the Body Image measuring tool uses an adaptation from the MBSRQ-AS (Multidimensional Body Self Relations Questionnaire-Appearance Scales) which consists of 34 items, and measuring Selfesteem using a modification from research by Cindy Syakila (2021), namely SEI (Self-esteem Inventory) which consists of 37 items. In this study, researchers used IBM SPSS Statistics 26 software using Spearman's correlation analysis to see the relationship between Body Image as a variable X1, Self-esteem as a variable X2, and Social Appearance Anxiety as a Y variable. The results obtained were on body image and social Appearance anxiety has a correlation coefficient of -0.169 with a significance value of 0.011 or r = -0.169 and p <0.05, which indicates that there is a negative relationship between Body Image and Social Appearance Anxiety. Meanwhile, selfesteem and social appearance anxiety have a correlation coefficient of -0.526 with a significance value of 0.000 or r = -0.526 and p <0.05, which indicates that there is a negative relationship between Self-esteem and Social Appearance Anxiety. Keywords: Social Appearance Anxiety, Body Image, Self-esteem, and Early Adult Woman Pada masa transisi dari remaja menuju dewasa, menjaga penampilan adalah hal yang penting, khususnya bagi para wanita yang ingin tampil lebih cantik dan menarik. Hal tersebut menyebabkan munculnya rasa cemas ketika mendapat evaluasi dari lingkungan sosial mengenai penampilan fisiknya. Citra tubuh dan harga diri yang dimiliki wanita dewasa awal diharapkan dapat membantu menurunkan tingkat kecemasan yang dimiliki wanita dewasa awal. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui hubungan antara body image dan self-esteem dengan social appearance anxiety pada wanita dewasa awal. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode kuantitatif dengan teknik accidental sampling dan total partisipan yang digunakan sebanyak 229 orang. Pada alat ukur Social Appearance Anxiety menggunakan adaptasi dari SAAS (Social Appearance Anxiety Scale) yang terdiri dari 16 item, alat ukur Body Image menggunakan adaptasi dari MBSRQ-AS (Multidimensional Body Self Relations Questionnaire-Appearance Scales) yang terdiri dari 34 item, dan alat ukur Self-esteem menggunakan modifikasi dari penelitian oleh Cindy Syakila (2021) yaitu SEI (Self-esteem Inventory) yang terdiri dari 37 item. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti menggunakan software IBM SPSS Statistics 26 dengan menggunakan analisa korelasi spearman’s untuk melihat hubungan antara Body Image sebagai variabel X1, Self-esteem sebagai variabel X2, dan Social Appearance Anxiety sebagai variabel Y. Hasil penelitian yang didapatkan yaitu pada body image dan social appearance anxiety memiliki nilai koefisinsi korelasi sebesar -0,169 dengan nilai signifikansi 0,011 atau r = -0,169 dan p < 0,05 yang menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan negatif antara Body Image dengan Social Appearance Anxiety. Sedangkan pada self-esteem dan social appearance anxiety memiliki nilai koefisinsi korelasi sebesar -0,526 dengan nilai signifikansi 0,000 atau r = -0,526 dan p < 0,05 yang menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan negatif antara Self-esteem dengan Social Appearance Anxiety. Kata Kunci: Kecemasan Penampilan Sosial, Citra Tubuh, Harga Diri, dan Wanita Dewasa Awal
