Abstract

This study discusses the Analysis of Communication Patterns for Overseas Students and Parents (Studies at Mercu Buana University, Jakarta). The aims of this study are 1) To describe the Communication Patterns of Parents and Overseas Students at Mercu Buana University, Jakarta. 2) To understand communication barriers overseas students communicate with parents. This study uses a qualitative approach with a qualitative descriptive method. The data collection technique used was in-depth interviews with five sources of overseas students who came from various regions and these overseas students resided around the campus. The results of this study indicate that the pattern of communication between overseas students and their parents changed from primary communication patterns (directly) to secondary communication patterns (indirectly and using media as communication). Secondary communication patterns can turn into circular communication patterns because of the feedback in the form of responses and responses from the communicant. The results of this study also show that the most frequent communication barriers are time constraints and communication technology. The results of this study indicate that the concept of self (self) plays a role in the topic of conversation when communicating with parents, when it is open in the conversation it is symbolized "I" and closed "me" . Penelitian ini membahas mengenai Analisis Pola Komunikasi Mahasiswa Perantauan Dan Orang Tua ( Studi Di Universitas Mercu Buana, Jakarta ). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah 1) Untuk mengambarkan Pola Komunikasi Orang Tua dan Mahasiswa Perantauan Di Universitas Mercu Buana, Jakarta. 2) Untuk Memahami hambatan komunikasi mahasiswa perantauan berkomunikasi dengan orangtua. Penelitian ini menggunakan tipe pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah wawancara mendalam dengan lima narasumber mahasiswa perantauan yang berasal dari berbagai daerah dan mahasiswa perantauan ini bertempat tinggal disekitar kampus. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa pola komunikasi antara mahasiswa perantauan dan orang tua berubah dari pola komunikasi primer (secara langsung) ke pola komunikasi sekunder (secara tidak langsung dan menggunakan media sebagai komunikasinya). Pola komunikasi sekunder dapat berubah menjadi pola komunikasi sirkular karena adanya feedback berupa respon dan tanggapan dari komunikan. Hasil penelitian ini juga menunjukan bahwa hambatan komunikasi yang paling sering adalah kendala waktu dan teknologi komunikasi. Dalam hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa konsep diri (self) berperan dalam topik pembicaraan ketika berkomunikasi dengan orang tua, Ketika terbuka dalam pembicaraannya disimbolkan “I” (saya) dan tertutup “me”(aku).
