Abstract

The way of presenting information is one of the important things in meeting the information needs of the community. One of them is through dot matrix LED displays that are connected to a web server. Besides saving energy, the information displayed can be controlled easily by Android. Information is also not only limited to local equipment, but is connected to a web server that can be accessed by Android. This system is implemented using IoT (Internet of Thing) technology through one of the IoT server opensource platforms, Thingspeak. The dot matrix display is connected to the internet via WiFi shield ESP8266. The Android application used is designed through the online service MIT App Inventor, where the application can be used to change the display of information in accordance with the options given in the application, namely text information that can be typed manually and information from several web servers in the form of weather information, currency, prayer times, and news headlines. The system can be controlled at any time in full without distance as long as the system is connected to the internet network. When testing, this system can display information from Android and server Thingspeak with 100% accuracy and display response pauses on average less than 10 seconds. Keywords: Dot matrix display, Arduino, ESP8266 Wifi, Thingspeak Server, MIT App Inventor Cara penyajian informasi merupakan salah satu hal penting dalam pemenuhan kebutuhan informasi masyarakat. Salah satunya adalah melalui dot matrix LED display yang terhubung dengan web server. Selain hemat energi, informasi yang ditampilkannya dapat dikendalikan dengan mudah dari Android. Informasi juga tidak hanya terbatas pada peralatan lokal, tetapi terhubung dengan web server yang dapat diakses via Android. Sistem ini diterapkan menggunakan teknologi IoT (Internet of Thing) melalui salah satu platform opensource IoT server yaitu Thingspeak. Dot matrix display terhubung dengan internet melalui WiFi shield ESP8266. Aplikasi Android yang dipakai dirancang melalui layanan online MIT App Inventor yang mana aplikasi tersebut bisa digunakan untuk mengubah-ubah tampilan informasi sesuai dengan opsi yang diberikan pada aplikasi yakni informasi teks yang bisa diketik manual dan informasi data dari beberapa web server berupa informasi cuaca, kurs mata uang, jadwal waktu sholat, dan headline news. Sistem bisa dikontrol kapanpun secara penuh tanpa batas jarak selama sistem terhubung dengan jaringan internet. Saat pengujian, sistem ini dapat menampilkan informasi dari Android maupun server Thingspeak dengan akurasi 100% dan jeda respon display rata-rata kurang dari 10 detik.
