Abstract

ABSTRACT Metal Active Gas (MAG) welding is very much in use in industry due to many advantages such as easy operation, reasonable price and high efficiency. In industries that produce bulk products would want efficient production process, low cost and competitive quality so as to get the economic value. Steel Plate Hot rolled Coiled-Pickel Oil (SPHC-PO) material is a material widely used in the manufacture of motorcycle and car frames because it is more rust resistant than similar materials. In welding, precise parameter adjustment is necessary to obtain good and strong welded results such as current, welding speed, protective gas, electrode/welding wire, connection type, and parent metal selection. These parameters will greatly affect the visually or nonvisually visible connection (mechanical properties). In this study I took the parameters of welding speed variation 30 cm/min, 50 cm/min and 70 cm/min and the fixed current is 100 amperes on Direct current electrode positive polarity (DCEP) with automatic MAG robot welding OTC Daihen AII-V6 for easy adjustment of input speed . Electrodes used type MAG welding solid wire AWS A5.18 ER70S-6 1.2 mm in diameter with metal parent SPHC-PO thickness of 2.6 mm. Conducted testing is the tensile strength of welding. The results of the test show a top speed of 70 cm/min has the lowest tensile strength of 367 N/mm². And the lowest speed of 30 cm/min has the highest tensile strength of 375 N/mm². So it can be concluded that the lower welding speed will increase the tensile strength and vice versa the higher the welding speed will decrease the tensile strength. Keywords: MAG Welding, SPHC-PO, welding speed, tensile strength test.
