Abstract

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EMPATHY AND TENDENCY OF CYBERBULLYING BEHAVIOR ON ONLINE SOCIAL NETWORKS Tommy Budi Hendrawan ABSTRACT This study aims to examine the relationship between empathy and tendency of cyberbullying behavior on online social networks in adolescents. Respondents used in this study were Indonesian teenagers social networking users aged 13-18 years. This study uses quantitative statistical calculations. The measurement scale used in this study is the adaptation scale of Basic Empathy Scale (BES) by Jolliffe & Farrington (2006) and Cyberbullying Perpetration (CBP) by Lee, Abell, & Holmes (2017). Determination of the sample used in this study using nonprobability sampling technique, namely convenience sampling, was distributed using an online questionnaire. The number of samples in this study were 273 respondents. The data analysis technique used in this study is correlation. The results showed that there was a significant negative correlation between empathy with the tendency of cyberbullying behavior on online social networks in adolescents. ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti hubungan antara empati dengan kecenderungan perilaku cyberbullying di jejaring sosial online pada remaja. Responden yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah remaja Indonesia pengguna jejaring sosial berusia 13 – 18 tahun. Penelitian ini menggunakan perhitungan stastitika kuantitatif. Skala pengukuran yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah skala adaptasi Basic Empathy Scale (BES) yang dibuat oleh Jolliffe & Farrington (2006) dan Cyberbullying Perpetration (CBP) yang dibuat oleh Lee, Abell, & Holmes (2017). Penentuan sampel yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini menggunakan teknik non-probability sampling, yaitu convenience sampling, dibagikan menggunakan kuesioner online. Jumlah sampel dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 273 orang responden. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah korelasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa ada korelasi negatif yang signifikan antara empati dengan kecenderungan perilaku cyberbullying di jejaring sosial online pada remaja. Kata Kunci: empati, cyberbulllying, remaja, jejaring sosial.
