Abstract

There has not been much awareness of the importance of a universal environment without restrictions for all persons with disabilities, resulting in policies regarding the construction of public facilities that still do not explicitly support the concept of universal design. This also happens in most museums in Indonesia, where the museum cannot be accessed by all visitors including children, adults, teenagers, the elderly or the disabled. Circulation in museum buildings should not have obstacles for persons with disabilities who want to watch collections, especially those with disabilities. This research was conducted to determine the effect of the concept of universal design on the level of independence of the diffable in the redesign of the museum building. Case studies were conducted at the Puppet Museum in Jakarta. The researcher observes the research object to see the extent to which the research object applies the universal design concept. The research method used is a quantitative method with a measurement tool for the independence of the diffable in a building. The final results of the study stated that the perception of diffables on the level of independence positively influences the existence of universal design concepts in the design of museum buildings. Keywords: redesign, accessibility, universal design, museum puppet Belum banyaknya kesadaran akan pentingnya lingkungan yang universal tanpa batasan bagi penyandang disabilitas semua, mengakibatkan kebijakan mengenai pembangunan fasilitas umum masih belum secara tegas mendukung konsep desain universal. Hal tersebut juga terjadi pada sebagian besar museum di Indonesia, dimana museum tidak dapat diakses oleh semua orang pengunjung antara lain anak-anak, dewasa, remaja, lansia maupun difabel. Sirkulasi pada bangunan museum tidak seharusnya memiliki hambatan bagi penyandang disabilitas yang ingin menonton koleksi, terutama difabel. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui pengaruh konsep desain universal terhadap tingkat kemandirian difabel pada redesain bangunan museum. Studi kasus dilakukan pada Museum Wayang di Jakarta. Peneliti melakukan observasi pada objek penelitian untuk melihat sejauh mana objek penelitian menerapkan konsep desain universal. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode kuantitatif dengan alat ukur skala kemandirian difabel di dalam bangunan. Hasil akhir penelitian menyatakan bahwa persepsi difabel terhadap tingkat kemandirian berpengaruh secara positif dengan adanya konsep desain universal pada desain bangunan museum.
