Abstract

Carbon electrode sensors are widely applied for progress and purposes such as checking water conditions, soil conditions and other health parts. Therefore, in this research, the development of nitrate sensors from the use of waste carbon powder batteries as a selective sensor nitrate ion electrode in measurements can be easier, relatively inexpensive and fast. In making carbon electrodes, carbon powder batteries are needed, Arabic gum and water are then mixed to become carbon paste and put into a plastic straw and then manually compacted. The carbon paste is dried in the sun for 2 days and dried for 2 hours using a hot plate strirrer at 150 oC. Carbon electrodes were treated with copper plates and cables, as well as coating with epoxy resin as a protector. The results of research and testing that the polyprrole membrane (ppy) is polymerized above the surface layer of the electrode by the cyclic voltammetry method prepared by using several cycles in a 0.1 M potassium chloride (KCl) solution. In this study the optimum cycles were found at 19 cycles with numbers Nernst (slope) produced is equal to 57,328 mv/decade. Keywords : Nitrate sensor, carbon powder battery, Arabic gum, carbon electrode, Potassium Chloride (KCl), Poylpyprrole (PPy), Cyclic Voltammetry. Sensor elektroda karbon banyak diaplikasikan untuk kemajuan dan keperluan seperti mengecek kondisi air, kondisi tanah maupun bagian kesehatan lainnya. Karena itu dalam penelitian ini pengembangkan sensor nitrat dari pemanfaatan limbah serbuk karbon baterai sebagai elektroda sensor selektif ion nitrat dalam pengukuran dapat menjadi lebih mudah, relatif murah dan cepat. Dalam pembuatan elektroda karbon diperlukan serbuk karbon baterai, Arabic gum dan air kemudian dicampurkan agar menjadi karbon pasta dan dimasukkan kedalam sedotan plastik lalu padatkan secara manual. Karbon pasta dikeringkan dengan panas matahari selama 2 hari dan pengeringan 2 jam menggunakan hot plate strirrer pada temperature 150 oC. Elektroda karbon dilakukan pemberian plat tembaga dan kabel, selain itu juga pelapisan dengan epoxy resin sebagai pelindung. Hasil penelitian dan pengujian bahwa membran polyprrole (ppy) dipolimerisasikan diatas lapisan permukaan elektroda dengan metode cyclic voltammetry yang dipreparasi dengan menggunakan beberapa cycles pada larutan kalium chloride (KCl) 0.1 M. Dimana dalam penelitian ini menunjukkan nilai cycles dengan optimum terdapat pada 19 cycles dengan bilangan Nernst (slope) yang dihasilkan yaitu sebesar 57,328 mv/dekade.
