Abstract

ABSTRAK Chiller adalah mesin yang berfungsi untuk menghilangkan panas dari suatu fluida dengan menggunakan siklus refrigrasi kompresi uap ataupun siklus refrigrasi absorpsi. Untuk mengetahui performa dari chiller ini akan digunakan nilai dari coefficient of performance (COP). Semakin besar nilai dari COP tersebut, makan akan semakin bagus juga performa dari chiller tersebut. Ada beberapa cara yang dapat dilakukan untuk meningkatkan nilai COP pada air cooled chiller, salah satunya adalah dengan meningkatkan proses pendinginan di kondensor. Salah satu caranya adalah dengan menurunkan temperatur udara pendingin di kondensor dengan bantuan sistem water mist di kondensor. Pengujian untuk mengetahui performa dari sistem water mist di kondensor ini dilakukan pada air cooled chiller kapasitas kompresor ½ PK yang dengan menggunakan freon R-22. Berdasarkan hasil pengujian, didapatkan hasil bahwa nilai dari COP pada air cooled chiller kapasitas kompresor ½ PK dengan sistem water mist di condenser mengalami peningkatan rata – rata sebesar 4,53%. Oleh karena itu penggunaan sistem precooling water mist condenser pada air cooled chiller sangat dianjurkan karena memiliki peningkatan performa yang lebih baik dari model standarnya. ABSTRACT Chiller is a kind of machine that serves to remove heat from a fluid by using vapor compression refrigration cycle or absorption refrigration cycle. To know the performance of this chiller will be used value of coefficient of performance (COP). The greater value of the COP, will show the better performance of the chiller. There are several ways to increase the value of COP in air cooled chiller, one of which is by increasing the cooling process in the condenser. One way is to decreasing the cooling air temperature in the condenser with was assisted by water mist system in the condenser. Research to determine the performance of the water mist system in the condenser is will be conduct in the air cooled chiller with ½ PK compressor capacity using the freon R-22. Based on the test results, it was found that the value of COP in air cooled chiller with ½ PK compressor capacity with water mist system in condenser is increase with average of 4.53%. Therefore, the use of water mist condenser precooling system on air cooled chiller is highly recommended because it has improved performance better than the standard model.
