Abstract
This research was motivated by the interest of researchers when watching film Im Not Stupid 2. The film tells how three children who have bad relations with their parents. Tom Yeo, 15, and Jerry Yeo, 8 years, never had the opportunity to talk to his parents. Their mother worked in the editorial of a well-known magazine and her father, an employee at a well-known gadget company. They were never given the opportunity to express their thoughts, every day before breakfast they were given inscriptions and were not allowed to respond or defend themselves. Meanwhile, Chengcai, his father was a former wrestler who suffered a disability in his leg due to his past work. Even though Chengcai was very fond of Bruce Lee and martial arts, his father forbid him because he did not want Chengcai to have the same fate as him. The research that the authors took was a constructivist research paradigm and the research method that the researcher took was semiotic qualitative research which meant that the authors interpreted the signs of the depiction of self-concept formation in the film. Data collection was obtained through nonparticipant observation, where the researcher made observations by watching the film Im Not Stupid 2 repeatedly, then the data obtained from the observations were processed into data relating to the research. The results of the study show that parents, peers and the environment have a big influence on the formation of children's self-concept. Praise and labeling also determine the child's self-concept, if anything good that the child does is appreciated with praise, the child will feel that he is valuable, conversely if the child is labeled as a dissident, lazy or stupid he will consider himself like that. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh ketertarikan peneliti ketika melihat film Im Not Stupid 2. Dalam film tersebut bercerita tentang bagaimana tiga orang anak yang memiliki hubungan buruk dengan orangtuanya. Tom Yeo 15 tahun dan Jerry Yeo 8 tahun tak pernah ada kesempatan untuk berbicara dengan kedua orangtuanya. Ibu mereka bekerja disebuah redaksi majalah terkenal dan ayahnya seorang karyawan di perusahaan gadget ternama. Mereka tak pernah di beri kesempatan untuk mengutarakan pikirannya, setiap hari sebelum sarapan mereka diberi petuah yang bertubi-tubi dan tak diperbolehkan untuk menanggapi ataupun membela diri. Sementara itu, Chengcai, ayahnya seorang mantan pegulat yang menderita cacat di kakinya karena pekerjaannya di masa lalu. Padahal Chengcai sangat menyukai bruce lee dan bela diri, namun ayahnya melarang karena ia tak mau Chengcai bernasib sama seperti dirinya. Penelitian yang penulis ambil adalah paradigma penelitian konstruktivis dan Metode penelitian yang penelti ambil adalah penelitian kualitatif analisis semiotik yang artinya, penulis menginterpretasikan tanda-tanda tentang penggambaran pembentukan konsep diri yang ada dalam film. Pengumpulan data diperoleh melalui observasi nonpartisipan, di mana peneliti melakukan pengamatan dengan menonton film Im Not Stupid 2 secara berulang-ulang, kemudian data yang diperoleh dari hasil pengamatan diolah menjadi data-data yang berkaitan dengan penelitian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa, orang tua, teman sebaya dan lingkungan berpengaruh besar pada pembentukan konsep diri anak. Pujian dan labeling juga menentukan konsep diri anak, jika apapun hal baik yang anak lakukan diapresiasi dengan pujian, anak akan merasa bahwa ia berharga, sebaliknya jika anak dicap sebagai pembangkang, malas atau bodoh ia akan menganggap dirinya seperti itu.
