Abstract
Air transportation is an alternative for Indonesian people in carrying out transportation activities. This is because the means of air transportation has a high speed and can do up to areas that are difficult to reach by other means of transportation. To be able to use air transportation, an airport is needed as an aircraft terminal. For this reason, from the airport has a major role in supporting the smooth air transportation. In the last few decades, the construction of airports has become a concern of countries in the world. The airport serves as a gateway as well as a symbol of cities, regions and countries that make projects with technology and cutting-edge. The airport design will make the first arrivals the tourists to be amazed. Not infrequently airport design is a benchmark for regional prosperity. Even so, it should be noted that the design is not only iconic, but also has a non-negotiable ability as a good tool, as well as convenience for users or workers in it. Keywords: Transportation, Airport, Facade, iconic Transportasi udara merupakan salah satu alternatif bagi masyarakat Indonesia dalam melakukan kegiatan transportasi. Hal ini dikarenakan sarana transportasi udara mempunyai karakteristik kecepatan yang tinggi dan dapat melakukan penetrasi sampai keseluruh wilayah yang sulit untuk dijangkau oleh sarana transportasi lain. Untuk dapat menggunakan transportasi udara diperlukan adanya bandar udara sebagai terminal pesawat terbang. Untuk itu, keberadaan dari bandar udara (airport) memiliki peranan yang utama dalam menunjang kelancaran transportasi udara. Dalam beberapa dekade terakhir, pembangunan Bandar udara telah menjadi perhatian negara-negara di dunia. Bandar udara berfungsi sebagai pintu gerbang sekaligus simbol suatu kota, daerah dan negara membuat pemerintah kian berlomba-lomba membangun bandar udara dengan desain dan teknologi paling mutakhir. Desain bandar udara diharapkan mampu membuat para pendatang tertama wisatawan berdecak kagum. Tak jarang desain Bandar udara menjadi tolok ukur kemakmuran suatu daerah. Meski begitu, perlu menjadi perhatian bahwa desain sebuah bandar udara tidak cukup hanya ikonis, tetapi juga harus mampu memenuhi fungsi utamanya yang tidak dapat ditawar yaitu sebagai instrument keselamatan, juga kenyamanan baik kepada para pengguna maupun pekerja di dalamnya.
