Abstract

Indonesia’s sales of steel is predicted to increase 7-9% and become 14.5-14.8 million ton of products in 2018. In desember 2017 CFR for hot roll coil is USD 562, 260% times bigger than 2015. Nevertheless domestic production cost is quite high due to high energy cost such as gas and electricity. Due to those things, PT XYZ carry out natural gas and electricity energi consumption efficiency to reduce both variable cost and production cost. These efficiency used DMAIC approach which consist of define to identity the problem, measure to get all the data needed, analyze to identify what factors which cause high energy consumption, improve to do some improvement due to those causes and lastly control to make sure that the improvement goes well. The result of DMAIC approach shows that energy consumption for natural gas decrease from 527 Mcal/ton product in 2017 to 383 Mcal/ton product in 2018 with the value of efficiency 27,32%. Energy consumption for electricity also decrease from 189,81 kWh to 116,58 kWh/ton product in 2018 with the value of efficiency 38,58%. Both efficiency causes the variable cost in 2018 to decrease 54,43% from 2017. Keywords: Energy efficiency, variable cost, DMAIC, electricity, natural gas. Penjualan baja di Indonesia diprediksi tumbuh 7-9% menjadi 14.5-14.8 Juta ton produk pada tahun 2018. Selain itu CFR untuk baja canai panas pada bulan desember 2017 mencapai $562 per ton melonjak 260% dibandingkan tahun 2015. Meski demikian harga pokok produksi dalam negeri masih tergolong cukup besar akibat tingginya biaya energi seperti gas dan listrik. Hal ini membuat PT XYZ berusaha melakukan efisiensi konsumsi energi listrik dan natural gas guna menurunkan variable cost yang akan berdampak pada turunnya biaya produksi. Upaya efisiensi diterapkan dengan menggunakan pendekatan DMAIC yang tersusun dari define untuk menentukan akar masalah, measure untuk mendapatkan semua data yang dibutuhkan, analyze untuk menemukan faktor apa saja yang mempengaruhi tingginya biaya energi, improve sebagai penerapan improvement dan control untuk memastikan semua improvement berjalan dengan baik. Hasil dari penerapan DMAIC menunjukan bahwa konsumsi energi untuk natural gas yang semula 527 Mcal/ton produk pada tahun 2017 menurun menjadi 383 Mcal/ton produk pada tahun 2018 dengan efisiensi sebesar 27,32%. Sementara konsumsi energi listrik yang semula 189,81 kWh/ton produk pada tahun 2017 menjadi 116,58 kWh/ton produk pada tahun 2018 dengan efisiensi sebesar 38,58%. Kedua efisiensi tersebut menyebabkan nilai variable cost pada tahun 2018 menurun 53,43% dari tahun 2017. Kata Kunci: Efisiensi energi, Variable Cost, DMAIC, Energi Listrik, Natural Gas.
