Abstract

ABSTRAC This study aims to determine the effect of price to book value of the stock returns on consumption goods industry. population used is the company listed in the Stock Exchange in the period 2004-2008, which is selected from the population sample using purposive sampling method, in this case is (I) Samples were consumer goods industry firms listed on the Stock Exchange in 2004 until 2008, (2) Sharing the dividend each year from 2004-2008, (3) Have the financial reporting data from the years 2004-2008 complete , (4) Has the closing stock price data are complete in each year during the study period. In this study the data collection method is done by way of secondary data documentation. The analysis used was simple linear regression analysis. Next to the test data used descriptive statistical tests, significant individual parameters (test statistic). Coefficient of determination used to determine the percentage of influence of the independent variables affect the dependent variable. Research result showed that the ratio Price to Book Value (PBV) can used to determine the investment strategy, because with using the ratio Price to Book Value (PBV) investor can expect stocks that have undervalued and overvalued, and then get significant shares of Return. The study also found a negative relationship between the ratio Price to Book Value (PBV) with the stock Return.
