Abstract
ABSTRACT The aims of the research at KTI’s WTP are to know the ability of each sand filter cells, current effective capacity, to compare the electricity cost for recycling waste of backwash water for current and new sand situation. The method analysis used were by measuring current headloss trend of each cells in a cycle of service, then be estimated a cycle time at maximum flow. The ability of a filter cell is maximum flow thru the filter cell multiple by its cycle time. Effective capacity of the existing sand filter unit is determined by the highest flow that given maximum backwash a day. Data used in this study are headloss, flow and quantity of water being treated, suspended solid content in sand filter influent and effluent water, water quantity for backwash, specific energy for waste water pump and electricity price. The results are most of the existing filter cells have ability very poor compared with new sand filter and effective capacity of the existing sand filter unit is less than design capacity. There is a potential saving on the electricity cost when sand filter recondition done. To maintain the sand filter ability can operate at design capacity at all times is recommended to implement aggressive maintenance or TPM Key words : effective capacity, design capacity, aggressive maintenance, TPM.
