Abstract
This study aims to determine the relationship between anticipatory regret and the tendency of digital hoarding in smartphone galleries among young adults in. This study employs a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The sample consisted of 245 young adult selected using the accidental sampling method. Measurements were conducted using the Digital Hoarding Questionnaire (DHQ) and the Anticipated Regret Scale (ARS). Data were analyzed using Spearman’s rho correlation test via SPSS software. The results showed a significant positive correlation between anticipatory regret and both dimensions of digital hoarding, namely difficulty deleting (r = .376, p < .001) and accumulating (r = .442, p < .001). The accumulating dimension demonstrated a stronger correlation than difficulty deleting, indicating that the anxiety of future regret more strongly drives the active accumulation of files compared to merely the inability to delete them. These findings confirm that anticipatory regret plays a significant role as the main driver of digital hoarding behavior in young adults, where the fear of losing important information triggers excessive accumulation of files in smartphone galleries. Keywords: anticipatory regret, digital hoarding, emerging adults Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara anticipatory regret dengan kecenderungan digital hoarding di galeri ponsel pada dewasa awal. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain korelasional. Sampel terdiri dari 245 responden dewasa awal yang dipilih dengan metode accidental sampling. Pengukuran dilakukan menggunakan Digital Hoarding Questionnaire (DHQ) dan The Anticipated Regret Scale (ARS). Data dianalisis menggunakan uji korelasi Spearman's rho melalui software SPSS. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan korelasi positif yang signifikan antara anticipatory regret dengan kedua dimensi digital hoarding, yaitu Difficulty Deleting (r = 0.376, p <.001) dan Accumulating (r = 0.442, p <.001). Dimensi accumulating menunjukkan kekuatan korelasi yang lebih besar dibandingkan difficulty deleting, mengindikasikan bahwa kecemasan akan penyesalan di masa depan lebih kuat mendorong perilaku pengumpulan file secara aktif dibandingkan dengan sekadar ketidakmampuan menghapus file. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa anticipatory regret berperan signifikan sebagai pendorong utama perilaku digital hoarding pada dewasa awal, di mana rasa takut kehilangan informasi penting memicu akumulasi file yang berlebihan di galeri ponsel.
