Abstract

Employee shift scheduling on a real industrial scale is a highly complex optimization problem due to the dynamic nature of the work, fluctuations in workforce demand, and the presence of strict rules (constraints). This research proposes the Pareto-Based Optimization HGLSA (PBO-HGLSA) algorithm to overcome the premature convergence weakness in conventional genetic algorithms. PBO-HGLSA integrates the Genetic Algorithm (GA) as a global search instrument, deterministic rule-based Local Search Repair (LS) inspired by Tabu Search (TS), and the Constrained Domination Principle. The high pressure of continuous-valued penalties triggers a Singleton Front phenomenon at the end of the execution, rendering conventional quantitative Pareto metrics mathematically irrelevant. Therefore, a multi-dimensional comparative evaluation was conducted visually using a Radar Chart based on ten independent executions.
