Abstract
School buildings are a key element in supporting the learning process. As a place where educational activities take place, their design must consider aspects of comfort, safety, and functionality to create an ideal learning environment. Over time, school building designs have undergone continuous innovation to meet the evolving demands of education. The primary focus in school construction includes elements such as natural lighting, adequate ventilation systems, open spaces, and the use of environmentally friendly building materials. Furthermore, spatial planning, such as classrooms, laboratories, libraries, and other supporting facilities, must be optimally designed to support effective teaching and learning. In tropical areas like Jakarta, the challenges of school construction are further complicated by the hot and humid climate. Therefore, an architectural approach is needed that improves air circulation, reduces room temperatures, and supports energy efficiency. With proper planning, school buildings can provide comfort for students and teachers, creating a healthy, inspiring, and sustainable learning environment. Population growth and the increasing number of junior high school graduates have created a need for the construction of new senior high school (SMA) buildings and improvements to the quality of educational facilities and infrastructure. Keywords: School Building; Public High School; Architecture; Tropical Region Gedung sekolah merupakan elemen kunci dalam mendukung proses pembelajaran. Sebagai tempat berlangsungnya aktivitas pendidikan, perancangannya harus mempertimbangkan aspek kenyamanan, keamanan, dan fungsionalitas guna menciptakan lingkungan belajar yang ideal. Seiring waktu, rancangan bangunan sekolah terus mengalami inovasi agar dapat memenuhi tuntutan pendidikan yang terus berkembang. Fokus utama dalam pembangunan sekolah mencakup elemen-elemen seperti pencahayaan alami, sistem ventilasi yang memadai, area terbuka, serta pemanfaatan bahan bangunan yang ramah lingkungan. Selain itu, penataan ruang seperti ruang kelas, laboratorium, perpustakaan, dan fasilitas penunjang lainnya perlu dirancang secara optimal untuk mendukung proses belajar mengajar yang efektif. Di wilayah tropis seperti Jakarta, tantangan pembangunan sekolah semakin kompleks akibat iklim yang panas dan lembap. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan pendekatan arsitektur yang mampu meningkatkan sirkulasi udara, menurunkan suhu ruangan, dan mendukung efisiensi energi. Dengan perencanaan yang tepat, gedung sekolah dapat memberikan kenyamanan bagi siswa dan guru, menciptakan lingkungan belajar yang sehat, inspiratif, dan berkelanjutan. Pertumbuhan jumlah penduduk dan meningkatnya lulusan tingkat sekolah menengah pertama menimbulkan kebutuhan akan pembangunan gedung Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA) yang baru serta peningkatan mutu sarana dan prasarana pendidikan.
