Abstract

The loss of part of one end of the fan blade on the Airbus A330 aircraft which causes unbalanced engine rotation so that the engine stalled and the aircraft experienced vibrations, and caused the onset of fire. Some of the tip of the fan blade is lost along 130 mm can occur due to incorrect use of gas during the manufacturing process. UT (Ultrasonic Testing) phase array is one method of NDT (Non Destructive Testing) which aims to detect discontinuity / defects / cracks. The UT phase array method is used for fan blade inspection to detect the existence of a crack on the fan blade. If a crack is known during the inspection process, the fan blade must be replaced with a new one. Cracks can occur due to two factors, namely due to errors during the production process, and because of usage factors. Crack criteria that are still within tolerance according to the manual are that the value on the A-Scan screen does not exceed 60%, so if it is still below 60% the value on the A-Scan layer, the fan blade can still be used. Hilangnya sebagian dari salah satu ujung fan blade pada pesawat Airbus A330 yang menjadi penyebab putaran engine yang tak seimbang sehingga engine stalled dan pesawat mengalami getaran, serta menyebabkan timbulnya api. Sebagian ujung dari fan blade hilang sepanjang 130 mm dapat terjadi karena kesalahan penggunaan gas yang salah selama proses pembuatannya. UT (Ultrasonik Testing) phase array merupakan salah satu metode NDT (Non Destructive Testing) yang bertujuan untuk mendeteksi discontinuity/cacat/crack. Metode UT phase array digunakan untuk inspeksi fan blade untuk mengtahui adanya crack pada fan blade. Jika diketahui ada crack saat proses inspeksi, maka fan blade harus diganti dengan yang baru. Crack dapat terjadi karena dua faktor, yaitu karena kesalahan saat proses produksi, dan karena faktor penggunaan. Kriteria crack yang masih dalam toleransi sesuai dengan manual adalah dengan besar nilai pada layar A-Scan tidak melebihi 60%, maka jika masih dibawah 60% nilai pada layer A-Scan, fan blade masih bisa digunakan.
