Abstract

Sterofoam waste is a type of limestone that is difficult to decompose by nature so that styrofoam wastes often accumulate and become pollution to the environment, styrofoam waste that accumulates in the river will flow into the sea so that it can damage the marine ecosystem. Because the sterofoam waste cannot be decomposed, it has become a serious problem in the community. The use of styrofoam is often found in the community as food packaging materials and other product packaging. The more use of Styrofoam in the community will also have an impact on the increasing volume of styrofoam waste in the community that can cause environmental pollution to increase. Departing from this, this study aims to find out the use of styrofoam waste so that it can be reused and recycled into a product. The method used is an experimental method because by using experiments on materials, the manufacture of test objects can be directly obtained during experiments. The experiment was carried out in the form of changing styrofoam which was originally a soft and soft foam into a hard, solid material and could be applied to a product as the main material. Limbah sterofoam merupakan jenis limah yang sulit terurai oleh alam sehingga limbah-limbah styrofoam sering menumpuk dan menjadi pencemaran bagi lingkungan, limbah styrofoam yang menumpuk pada sungai akan bermuara ke laut sehingga dapat merusak ekosistem laut. Karena sifatnya yang tidak bisa terurai limbah sterofoam kini menjadi permasalahan yang cukup serius di lingkungan masyarakat. Penggunaan styrofoam sering sekali dijumpai pada lingkungan masyarakat sebagai bahan pembungkus makanan serta pembungkus produk lainnya. Semakin banyak penggunaan styrofoam pada masyarakat akan berdampak juga terhadap meningkatnya volume limbah styrofoam pada lingkungan masyarakat yang dapat menyebabkan pencemaran lingkungan semakin meningkat. Berangkat dari hal itu maka penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pemanfaatan limbah styrofoam agar dapat digunakan kembali dan didaur ulang menjadi sebuah produk. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode eksperimen karena dengan menggunakan eksperimen terhadap bahan, pembuatan benda uji dapat langsung diperoleh saat eksperimen. Eksperimen yang dilakukan berupa untuk merubah sterofoam yang awalnya bersifat seperti busa yang lembut dan empuk menjadi sebuah material yang keras, padat dan dapat diaplikasikan terhadap sebuah produk sebagai bahan material utama.
