Abstract

Stainless steel is widely known for its use in the industrial and medical sectors because of its favorable characteristics, as stainless steel is more resistant to corrosion, widely applied to life areas, such as industrial fields, medical devices and household. The objectives of the study were (1) to determine the corrosion rate that can occur in 316L stainless steel by using arabic gum coating 1% EPD technique 45 minutes and 60 minutes. (2) to know the morphology of 316L stainless steel metal surface after 1% arabic gum coated with EPD technique. The first stainless steel test sample is cut into 1x1cm² size, then the surface is sanded using grade 1000 to grade 1200, after the surface is sanded, the sample is resin process to cover the sides that do not want to be tested, the sample is pinched using HCl 5 %, 5% NaOH, aquades and 5% alcohol, the sample was weighed to determine the initial weight after it was admitted to the EPD protection for 45 minutes and 60 minutes, after being removed and dried in 0.5M H2SO4 solution. On immersion for 7 days without inhibitor lost an average weight of 0.0037gram. Calculation of the largest corrosion rate (Cr) 0.10833333 mg / cm² hour in 1 day immersion time. Surface morphology without and by using 1% Arabic gum inhibitor with EPD technique in 0.5M H2SO4 environment with immersion of 7 days using SEM tool with magnification 5000 X Keywords: Stainless steel 316L, corrosion, EPD, SEM Bahan stainless steel banyak dikenal kegunaannya pada sektor industri dan dunia medis karena karakteristiknya yang menguntungkan, karena stainless steel lebih tahan terhadap korosi, banyak diaplikasikan sebagai bidang kehidupan, seperti bidang industri, alat-alat medis dan rumah tangga. Tujuan penelitian yaitu (1) menentukan laju korosi yang dapat terjadi pada logam stainless steel 316L dengan menggunakan pelapisan arabik gum 1% teknik EPD 45 menit dan 60 menit. (2) untuk mengetahui morfologi permukaan logam stainless steel 316L setelah dilapisi arabik gum 1% dengan teknik EPD. Pengujian sampel uji stainless steel pertama-tama logam dipotong menjadi ukuran dengan luas 1x1cm², lalu permukaannya diamplas menggunakan grade 1000 sampai grade 1200, setelah permukaan diamplas, sampel dilakukan proses resin untuk menutupi sisi-sisi yang tidak ingin diuji, sampel dipikling dengan menggunakan HCl 5%, NaOH 5%,aquades dan alcohol 5%, sampel ditimbang untuk mengetahui berat awal setelah itu masuk diproses proteksi EPD selama 45 menit dan 60 menit, setelah diangkat dan dikeringkan direndam dalam larutan 0,5M H2SO4. Pada perendaman selama 7 hari tanpa inhibitor kehilangan berat rata-rata 0.0037gram. Perhitungan laju korosi (Cr) terbesar 0.10833333 mg/cm²jam dalam waktu perendaman 1 hari. Morfologi permukaan tanpa dan dengan menggunakan inhibitor Arabic gum 1% dengan teknik EPD dilingkungan 0,5M H2SO4 dengan perendaman 7 hari dengan menggunakan alat SEM dengan pembesaran 5000 X Kata kunci: Stainless steel 316L, korosi,EPD, SEM
