Abstract

Indonesia is the biggest archipelago country in the world. Therefore, it takes the concept and planning of long-distance communication system development cheap and reliable in order to connect communication in the archipelago which is relatively left behind, outermost and isolated in Indonesia, which is relatively difficult to reach by cable communication system currently connected. High frequency (HF) communication system that works in the frequency range 3-30 MHz. This communication system utilizes the ionosphere as a medium for transmitting radio waves. The ionosphere is greatly influenced by solar activity. The ionosphere is divided into 3 layers, namely layers D, E and F. This layers is dynamic because it is affected by changes in the time of day and the difference altitude of the ionosphere layer. The knowledge about HF channel characteristics become very important in order to design HF communication. We can achieve a better communication system performance by knowing the proper HF channel characteristics with measurement. Other than that, there is interference when the signal has more than one path when it is transmitted this condition is called multipath. This phenomenon has the potential to affect the performance of the HF communication caused by value of delay spread and greater variation in time compared to areas at higher latitudes. Parameters regarding delay spread conducted to determine the characteristics of the HF channel. This is treated as a recommendation in designing the HF communication system. Based on experimental results within 2 months. Conducted 8 times in 4 different times. Resulting in the maximum delay spread value occurs in the morning which is worth 124.1 ms different from the afternoon which has a value of 41 ms only. Keyword : HF measurement system, impuls respon, power delay profile, delay spread, channel characterization. Indonesia merupakan negara kepulauan terbesar di dunia. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan konsep dan perencanaan pembangunan sistem komunikasi jarak jauh yang murah dan handal agar bisa terhubungnya komunikasi di wilayah kepulauan yang relatif tertinggal, terluar dan terpencil di Indonesia, yang relatif sulit dijangkau oleh sistem komunikasi kabel yang sudah terhubung saat ini. Sistem komunikasi high frequency (HF) yang beroperasi pada frekuensi 3-30 MHz. Sistem komunikasi ini memanfaatkan lapisan ionosfer sebagai media transmisi gelombang radionya. Lapisan ionosfer sangat dipengaruhi oleh aktivitas matahari. Lapisan ionosfer dibagi dalam 3 lapisan yaitu lapisan D, E dan F. Lapisan ini bersifat dinamis karena dipengaruhi oleh perubahan waktu sepanjang hari serta perbedaan ketinggian lapisan ionosfer. Dalam perancangan sistem komunikasi HF, pengetahuan mengenai karakteristik kanal HF menjadi sangat penting. Dengan mengetahui karakteristik kanal HF yang tepat,kita dapat mencapai kinerja sistem komunikasi yang lebih baik. Selain itu, seperti kondisi dimana terdapat interferensi ketika sinyal memiliki lebih dari satu jalur pada saat ditransmisikan hal ini dinamakan multipath atau lintasan jamak. Fenomena ini berpotensi mempengaruhi kinerja sistem komunikasi HF yang disebabkan oleh nilai delay spread dan variasi waktu yang lebih besar dibanding dengan daerah-daerah pada garis lintang yang lebih tinggi. Parameter mengenai delay spread diperlakukan untuk mengetahui karakteristik kanal HF. Hal ini diperlakukan sebagai rekomendasi dalam melakukan perancangan sistem komunikasi HF. Berdasarkan hasil percobaan dalam kurun waktu 2 bulan. Dilakukan sebanyak 8 kali percobaan dalam 4 waktu yang berbeda. Menghasilkan nilai delay spread maksimal terjadi pada pagi hari yaitu bernilai 124,1 ms berbeda dengan sore hari yang memiliki nilai 41 ms saja. Kata kunci : HF lintasan jamak, respon impuls, power delay profile, delay spread, karakterisasi kanal.
