Abstract

This study aims to determine and analyze the relationship of emotional intelligence with coping stress among to employee students in Mercu Buana University Majoring Psychology. This study uses a quantitative approach with correlation analysis techniques. In this study uses accidential sampling techniques, with a sample of 102 employee students. Researchers used the concept of Goleman (1996) to measure emotional intelligence (with reliability coefficient of 0,762) and the concept of Lazarus and Folkman (1984) to measure coping stress (with reliability coefficient of 0,817). The result of analysis by using pearson product moment correlation technique with correlation coefficient value of -0.574 with a significance value of 0.000. thus it can be concluded there is a negative relationship between emotional intelligence and coping stress to employee students. Keywords : emotional intelligence, coping stress, employee students majoring psychology Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan menganalisis hubungan kecerdasan emosi dengan coping stress pada karyawan yang berkuliah di Universitas Mercu Buana Jurusan Psikologi. Pendekatan penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif dengan teknik korelasi. Dalam penelitian ini, menggunakan teknik pengambilan sampel sampling insidental, dengan jumlah sampel 102 orang karyawan yang berkuliah. Peneliti menggunakan konsep Goleman (1996) untuk mengukur kecerdasan emosi (dengan koefisien reliabilitas sebesar 0,762) dan konsep Lazarus dan Folkman (1984) untuk mengukur coping stress (dengan koefisien reliabilitas sebesar 0,817). Hasil analisa dengan menggunakan teknik korelasi pearson product moment dengan bantuan program IBM SPSS versi 23 diperoleh nilai koefisien korelasi sebesar -0,574 dengan nilai signifikansi 0,000. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat hubungan negatif antara kecerdasan emosi dengan coping stress pada karyawan yang berkuliah.
