Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of good corporate governance, leverage and firm size on the potential of financial distress. The population is the Basic and Chemical Industry Manufacturing Sub-Sector companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) for the 2015-2017 period. The sample used in this study amounted to 99 company sample data taken using the purposive sampling method. Independent commissioner variables are measured by the ratio of the number of independent commissioners to total board members, institutional ownership is measured by the ratio of institutional ownership to the number of shares outstanding, leverage is measured using a debt ratio, company size is measured using total assets and financial distress is measured using interest coverage ratio. Data analysis used in this study is a logistic regression model. The results showed that leverage had a significant positive effect on the potential for financial distress, while independent commissioners, institutional ownership and firm size did not influence the potential for financial distress. Keywords: Independent Commissioner, Institutional Ownership, Leverage, Firm Size and Financial Distress Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji pengaruh good corporate governance, leverage dan ukuran perusahaan terhadap potensi financial distress. Populasi adalah perusahaan Manufaktur Sub Sektor Industri Dasar dan Kimia yang terdaftar di Bursa Efek Indonesia (BEI) periode 2015-2017. Sampel yang digunakan pada penelitian ini berjumlah 99 data sampel perusahaan yang diambil menggunakan metode purposive sampling. Variabel komisaris independen diukur dengan rasio jumlah anggota komisaris independen dengan total anggota dewan komisaris, kepemilikan institusional diukur dengan rasio kepemilikan institusi dengan jumlah saham yang beredar, leverage diukur dengan menggunakan debt ratio, ukuran perusahaan diukur dengan menggunakan total asset dan financial distress diukur menggunakan interest coverage ratio. Analisis data yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah model regresi logistik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa leverage berpengaruh positif signifikan terhadap potensi terjadinya financial distress, sedangkan komisaris independen, kepemilikan institusional dan ukuran perusahaan tidak berpengaruh terhadap potensi terjadinya financial distress.
