Abstract

Until now, human thinking about a tribe, race, religion or even animals is still have a stereotype. Not only humans, even animals also have their respective stereotypes. Therefore, every thing in this world must have had their respective views, or the term stereotype attached to him. Stereotypes are the process of placing people and objects into established categories, or judgments about people or objects based on categories that are deemed appropriate, rather than by their individual characteristics. The purpose of this study is to find out how the stereotypical depiction of identity in Zootopia film. The type of this research is qualitative with descriptive type and use semiotic analysis method of Ferdinand De Saussure. This study uses a reference book that discusses the science of communication, film, semiotics to books that discuss the stereotype and identity. The result of this research is stereotype is a form of symbolic violence, where the existence of violence is within the scope of power, which means violence is the result of power. When large animals dominate small animals, then in dominance (power) it produces violence. Sampai sekarang ini, pemikiran manusia tentang suatu suku, ras, agama atau bahkan hewan masih tergolong stereotype. Tidak hanya manusia, bahkan hewan pun juga memiliki stereotype masing-masing. Maka dari itu, setiap apa yang ada di dunia ini pasti sudah memiliki pandangannya masing-masing, atau istilahnya stereotype yang melekat pada dirinya tersebut. Stereotype adalah proses menempatkan orang-orang dan objek-objek ke dalam kategori yang mapan, atau penilaian mengenai orang-orang atau objekobjek berdasarkan kategori-kategori yang di anggap sesuai, alih-alih berdasarkan karakteristik individul mereka. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana penggambaran stereotype mengenai identitas dalam film Zootopia. Jenis penelitian ini adalah kualitatif dengan tipe deskriptif dan menggunakan metode analisis semiotika milik Ferdinand De Saussure. Penelitian ini menggunakan referensi buku yang membahas mengenai ilmu komunikasi, perfilman, semiotika hingga buku-buku yang membahas tentang stereotype dan identitas. Hasil yang diperoleh dari penelitian ini adalah stereotype merupakan bentuk kekerasan simbolik, dimana adanya kekerasan berada dalam lingkup kekuasaan, yang berarti kekerasan merupakan hasil dari adanya kekuasaan. Ketika hewan berbadan besar mendominasi hewan berbadan kecil, maka dalam dominasi (kekuasaan) tersebut menghasilkan kekerasan
