Abstract

Archimedes screw is a pump used by the Babylonia as a water pump to irrigate the garden depending on the use of screw threads to take water from the bottom to up. Along with the times and technological advances, archimedes screw began to be developed into water turbines known as reliable screw turbines and has high efficiency even though it is installed in a river that has a low head and low water discharge. Indonesia has many rivers that have a low head and low water discharge, one of which is in the village of Cilangkap, Sumedang district, namely the Cigirang river, because it is located below the foot of Tampomas mountain so the Cigirang river has a stable water discharge. To design a screw turbine to be able to work optimally, it can be used Rorres formulation in its dimensions calculation, by estimating the width of the river to be used will get the diameter value of screw turbines which will be the initial capital to calculate the dimensions of other screw turbines. The design of the screw turbine is made of three variations based on the comparison matrix, which are river characteristics, environmental and social factors. Of course, screw turbines still need design development and also the application of modular systems in their design, so that the screw turbines can not only work optimally but can also work reliably and easily in installation and maintenance. Keywords: Screw Turbine, Archimedes Screw, PLTMH, Hydropower, Micro Hydro, Modular, Low Head, Build Design, Water Turbine Archimedes screw merupakan sebuah pompa yang digunakan oleh bangsa babylonia sebagai pompa air untuk mengairi taman bergantung dengan memanfaatkan putaran ulir untuk mengangkut air dari bawah ke atas. Seiring perkembangan zaman dan kemajuan teknologi, archimedes screw mulai di kembangkan menjadi turbin air yang dikenal sebagai turbin ulir yang handal dan mempunyai efisiensi yang tinggi meskipun dipasang pada sungai yang memiliki head dan debit yang rendah. Indonesia memiliki banyak sungai yang memiliki head dan debit yang rendah salah satunya berada di desa Cilangkap kabupaten Sumedang yakni sungai Cigirang, karena terletak dibawah kaki gunung tampomas sehingga sungai cigirang memiliki debit air yang stabil. Untuk merancang sebuah turbin ulir agar dapat bekerja secara optimum dapat dengan menggunakan formulasi Rorres dalam perhitungan dimensinya, dengan memperkirakan lebar sungai yang akan dimanfaatkan akan didapatkan nilai diameter turbin ulir yang akan menjadi modal awal untuk menghitung dimensi turbin ulir lainya. Desain Turbin ulir dibuat tiga variasi yang mana nantinya akan dipilih desain terbaik berdasarkan penilaian matrik perbandingan dengan kriteria penilaian yakni karakterisktik sungai, faktor lingkungan dan sosial masyarakat. Tentunya turbin ulir masih perlu pengembangan desain dan juga penerapan sistem modular pada rancangan desainnya, agar turbin ulir tidak hanya dapat bekerja secara optimum namun juga dapat bekerja secara handal dan mudah dalam instalasi maupun perawatan.
