Abstract

ABSTRACT What makes capital structure debate especially intriguing is that the different theories underlying the capital structure of firms entail different decision making processes. The result of the investigation shows that firms have target leverage and make adjustment toward achieving the targets. The dominant variables of firm characteristics which affect the capital structure of manufacturing companies listed at the JSX the periode of 2005-2007 are firm size, profitability and liquidity. This investigation also shows that an optimal capital structure maximizes value of the firm.
